Raktyamya pahad, aiuta documentary ho. Maile Washington DC ma hereko thinye. it's based on victims' interviews. Police ra administration ko jyadati le nai mao bad le mauka panyeko ho. But Maoists are not doing good either. they have already started killing innocent people there. So either way the innocent get killed. The interviews in the documentary are so touching. But there is no way I am supporting the maoist.

Kudos goes to NSA of George Mason University to bringing this documentary to this region. Documentary's main objective seems to show how the lives of normal people of Nepal has been affected by the Moist insurgency. In the documentary, you see the voidness in the eyes of orphan children, spouses' lost, mothers' cries, and a father's (whose one son is in police and one is moist ) dilemma. These grim stories invokes emotions. I think documentary is fair. I didn't find it to be lopsided in any way. Talk show program was also held. Chitra Krishna Tiwari and (something) Kumar from Amnesty International spoke. I find Chitra Krishna Tiwari not an Independent Thinker as it was advertised. His talk was intent on giving Moist a moral high groud which I found to be totally repugnant. Well he was entitled to have his own opinion but he shouldn't be called "independent" at all. To me, I found him moist in disguise of being independent. Kumar's view was balanced. He was advocating the rule of law and in long run it's counter productive for government not to do so. The funny thing was in the middle of the program the fire alarm sounded ( apparently some chakchake keta Keti might have pulled the fire alarm ) and the rest of the program had to be done outsided. Also the question answer session was held. Instead of asking question, some folks are more in giving lecture than asking question. This is my review..I hope more Washingtonians will add on to this!

I would like to thank everyone who came to the program, participated in the discussions and have taken time to provide comments and suggestions. Please accept our apology for the inconvenience caused by the fire alarm. I am glad that we were able to continue the talk program outside the building. Below is another review taken from NepalHorizons bulletin board (http://www.nepalhorizons.com/nhc_bbs/messages/5176.html). We might be able to post the talk given by Dr. Tiwari and Mr. T. Kumar at a later date. -Puru ========== Raktamya Pahad and interaction program at GMU Posted by dukhi Nepali on April 19, 2002 at 23:32:26: Comments: Just came back from the program (Raktamya Pahad movie and talk) organised by Nepalese Students Union of George Mason University. Kudos to the organisers. However, I do have a few suggestions for the orgnisers (also the ANA and ANS, kindly take note for the future programs). Please do not allow childeren to such programs. We had children running around and screaming while the serious talk was going on and it was becoming difficult to hear the speaker. If you must bring children, please arrange for proper child care services or keep them with you so that they do not disturb others. We had the same problem last week (New Year's day celebration at the American University). The children were bored and they had nothing to do with poetry reading going on. Finally, parents, please take care of your children if you must bring them to such program. You can't just leave them to run around and screaming as if you have brought them to a public park or a playground. Other than that, the movie was great. I think there should be part II and III of the movie since the events have gone beyond what was shown in the movie. Dr. Chitra Tiwari's analysis was excellent, unbiased and covered all the grounds in a nutshell. He was objective and even rightly mentioned that the ethnic neglect was one of the (root) reasons of the current Maoist probmem. I did not hear what the likely solution to the problem is. No body seems to know how to put out the fire that is now catching into all parts of the country. But that may be for the next interaction program.

I think the documentary was well balanced. It shows one way or the other, it is hurting general people. At the end, you wish these things were just the stories or a movie. One Maoist widow said that she is in deep pain after she lost her husband, but 'shok.lai shakti ma parinat garnu parchha.' I thought that was very strong statement and that convinced me why they are still fighting despite all the losses. I also believe that statement was not hers. That is how Maoist so called leaders exploits the low-class uneducated general people. This is very sad and I hate the leaders more after seeing it. It was a good effort by Puru and GMU students for making this program successful. Hoever, GOD knows why the lights were on during the movie-show. I feel sorry for those non-nepali speaking friends who couldn't read the English captions because of that. May be someone wanted to see people's facial expressions badly as how they react during the show.
