I just wanted to see the opinion of those nepali who were born here. Which is home for you? America or Nepal or in between may be singapur or somewhere along that line( scratch that..You know what I meant)? What are the problems you guys and ladies are facing? I am a student just moved here about 4 years ago and kind of curious to see all you amrikane nepali's opinion. Thanks for your time. Uhi dukhi Sahila dai

oh ho, what a tough question. how many american-nepalis visit this forum? rebelious sevendust...you came here as a youngster - am i correct? anyone else? i guess this is just a huge question and would take years to answer. i mean acculturation is a complicated issue - if you think being an immigrant is hard, think again! - being a child of immigrant parents can be even more difficult.

I'll step up and confess too...I'm one of those "amrikane nepali's "...but, I don't think I would want to enter into the proposed discussion. It's been discussed at every "youth forum" at every Nepali conference since the early 80's. Sorry to sound so cynical, but I feel like it's almost a set up to begin asking about us that grew up here. I feel we "amrikane nepali's" are perceived very differently by a lot of newer Nepali immigrants and those in Nepal...when we are actually facing the same problems you are. We're no different than you. However, if you want to open up a discussion of how difficult it is to deal with parents who still romanticize Nepal and try to bring you up according to cultural mores of 25-30 years ago... Now, that can take forever!
