GBNC introduces a new award: CITIZEN OF THE YEAR. This award recognizes the one individual who has given the most to GBNC during the past year. While we are all busy with our own lives, there are a few individuals who look beyond their personal needs and dedicate time, money and effort to help the community at large. It is because of such individuals that our lives are made a little easier, a little more enjoyable, a little richer. Citizen of the Year honors such individuals. The first Citizen of the Year award will be handed out on May 11th, 2002 during the "Baisakhi Saanjh" program. If you would like GBNC Executive Council to consider any candidates, please either email the candidate names to president@gbnc.org or list them on this thread. Please note that the Council will make the final decision on who the recipient of the award is. Regards, Bik Yonjan GBNC President 2001-2002 president@gbnc.org

It's commendable for gbnc to do like this. What kind of criteria are you going to use give this award?

The criteria is fairly simple. The Executive council will vote on who it feels has contributed the most. None of the top 4 executive council members (vice president, secretary, treasurer and president) qualify. Other than that, everyone qualifies. Also, the award is for someone who has contributed the most during the past year. We are hopeful that such recognition would inspire others to help GBNC in the coming years. I hope that answers your question. Bik. GBNC.

Obvious choice: SAN PRADHAN who has put in a lot of personal resources (including incredible amounts of time) to make it possible for GBNC to grow from being the sponsor of occasional social events to being part of our daily lives... who has made it possible for the community to retain among its members people who have moved away from Boston, and bring into the community people who do not live near Boston... who has given the online community the freedom and opportunity to grow up on its own, but who has maintained high standards of moral and integrity whenever there was a time to make a decison.
