Plexus:
I saw these guys playing live drum n' bass in a bar NYC. They kick ass. Intricate drum beats live, now that's phat.

The list is good. There's something to be said about a mainstream in under ground music scene...all these DJs are staples so fairly a no brainer as a pick. But to each his own.

I am more down with dives and off the beaten track bars and lounges.
naya keta Posted on 29-Apr-02 07:01 PM

Are u refering to "Trance" rather than " Drum n Base".....On the lists that have been given I see a large amount of DJ's which here in London are classified (If one can really do that in music) as trance DJ's....Drum n Base here in the uk has a distinctly different (equally good ) sound to that of Trance and cater to different segements of the "music lovin" community.. Personal favourite....the second song on Okenfold's "Tranceport" cd...If u listen to it imagine summer time, crusin in a convertible with ur mates and generally enjoying life in relaxed manner...always gets me going....
Funny though, when i left Nepal I was a "Rock" kid and considered dance music a non-entity, now it rules and, "rock" on the other hand seems childish and plain. Afterall heard one power chord heard them all.....
If there are those of u out there that like dark, heavy and incredibly powerful dance music reccomend the "Trade" compilation cds as well as a dj called Tony Devit. ...for smooth funky house beats u can't beat the godfather of modern house music, Franky "Knuckles".
If anyone has heard anything absolutely amazing recently pls let us know....
Doozie Posted on 29-Apr-02 09:16 PM

Naya, you are right the above are mostly trance, more in the house slant. Not like Goa Trance. Tenaglia is definitely Deep House.

Plexus though is DnB
JackAss Posted on 30-Apr-02 11:25 AM

Totally agree, once I was a 'Rock kid' too. Back home, I was in a well known 'Rock Band' making dough and drifting away from the happiness, whose existance I was not aware of. Devit is really good, of course Frankie Knuckles is the spinner..I have seen him couple of times. Personally, I like tracks 4 and 5 of 'Traceport' cd. Been away from the scene for few years, couple of months ago I heard this guy called 'Timo Maas'. I recommend you guys to check him out.

Do you know who remixed 'without you' (guessing this title) track from Mitsubishi eclipse 02' TV commerical. There's this chic, grooving while they're cruising...I really wanna get hold of that.

Yesterday, you were a 'Rock Kid'. Today you're a 'Raver Kid'. Tomarrow you'll NO be a 'Raver Kid' anymore. The reality of life.

Rave scene is just too Xtreme for a kid to carry on till after he's 30. Only a few survive after 30. So, live your life accordingly. Live, knowing that you won't be a raver anymore soon (sooner than the rock and kids realize that they can't be rockNroller forever).

Here's a brain teaser:
So, is it the drug or the music that makes you madly fall in love with Electronic Undergound Dance Music?

JackAss Posted on 30-Apr-02 04:58 PM

Drug, of course :)
Power_Ranger Posted on 30-Apr-02 05:22 PM

>Drug, of course :)

Where do you live and how much does it cost over there? I'm assuming your drug of choice is X.

Soon, Mr. Web Admin will kick us out of here.

Happy to c that there are quite few ravers out there....keep on dudes...the dance culture is one of the most exciting and funky scenes around (until the next one comes along ofcourse) and what attracts me the most to it r the people u meet in clubs.....given, the drugs play a huge part (personally I never take any, don't really need it) but i find the people so friendly and approachable. Everyone is out there with no pretentions and only want to have a good time. No points to prove, no attitude and most of all no bullshit...it is complete hedonism and if u r open anything can happen and I mean anything......So to answer a question from above, more than anything, it is the people and definately not the drugs. Ofcourse the orgasmic music probably helps...

Recently been hearing a bit of latino-house fusion....FUNNNNKY man...
Santosh Posted on 30-Apr-02 08:20 PM

I think the mitsubishi commercial 2003 where the girl is grooving is by
Dirty Vegas. It's a remix of title Days Go By. If u wanna get hold of it,
download kaaza, it's out there
JackAss Posted on 30-Apr-02 10:22 PM

RAVE IS DEAD Posted on 01-May-02 03:37 PM

RAVE IS DEAD
THE PARTIES PEAKED AROUND 1997-98, ITS BEEN DOWNHILL SINCE.
HERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY NEW MUSIC IN ELECTRONICA SINCE MID 90'S. ALL THE STUFF THAT COMING OUT HAS BEEN DONE BY OTHERS BEFORE(THEY ARE JUST RECYCLING IT) LAST NEW THING WAS DRUM N BASS AND THAT CAME AROUND 1993-94.TRANCE PEAKED AROUND 1996(So did progressive house), Then it was back to the Basics....Deep House, Latino house And house became popular again in the late 90's to present.. But Trip Hop is still going stong from begining to now. Hate Gaba and Happyhardcore.
But lately if you look at the new releases a lotta fusion and rock infused experimental shit been comin' out. A lot of vocal stuff trying to appease the main stream crowd(who cannot listen to music without a singer).

The only difference I see between now and then is that back then it was a movement. Groups were tightknit college students who cared. Then it became this money making machine, drugs made it even worse, people became greedy. And media spotlight spoiled everything. Now all you see are tiny Boppers at parties. We call em Leftovers....
