Fear Nepal rebels will take children sparks exodus

RAJAPURMANDI, Nepal (Reuters) - Some 1,500 people have fled to India from Nepal, terrified that Maoist guerrillas in the Himalayan kingdom would force them to hand over their children to join the rebel fight, officials said on Sunday.
The people were crossing the open border from the remote Nepali trading town of Rajapurmandi in the first big exodus since the Maoists began their battle to install a communist republic in the impoverished nation in 1996, police said.
