Call for Participation/Submission to Student Workshop

George Mason University - Nepali Student Association (GMU-NSA) is organizing a workshop on "Studying in America: Experiences, Needs and Aids" in collaboration with Nepal United States Educational Network, NSOA, and SEBS-NA at the Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA) Annual Convention, July 4-7, 2002. The workshop is tentatively scheduled for the morning of Saturday, July 6, 2002. ANA, in conjunction with the diverse and vibrant Nepali community of the Washington DC area, is hosting its 20th Annual Convention at the beautiful and famous Westfields Marriott Conference Center, one of the premier convention venues in the East Coast.


The workshop intends to bring various Nepali Student Groups in the US together and provide an opportunity to share their experiences, needs and issues. The workshop will cover following topics:
1. Helping new students
- Orientation, financial assistance, recruitment and admissions, establishing multi cultural relationship, language assistance
2. Introducing Nepali social and cultural heritage on schools or colleges
- talk program on various topics, celebration of major festivals and holidays, nepali language and literature related workshops
3. Ways of bringing Nepali issues to mainstream America
4. Participating in community activities outside the campus
5. Helping to build Student Career/Employment
- Networking with local Nepali owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and NGOs doing developmental projects in Nepal or any US businesses doing businesses in Nepal.
-Establish an internship program, mentoring program, and volunteering services to gain a real world experience.
6. Planning and coordinating social and cultural activities with local community organizations


GMU-NSA would like to request and highly encourage Nepali Student Groups or individual students to participate and share their experience on this workshop. The deadline for submission is May 31st, 2002. Registration to the convention is required to participate on the workshop.
