I have seen western names named to animal in Nepal like Michael, Jackson etc but I have never seen Nepali name in America named to animal.

Read the following article from one of the newspaper. How can buddha be a Horse?

Wood winner Buddha out of Derby with bruised foot

Published May 3, 2002
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Buddha, the Wood Memorial winner and one of the favorites to win the Kentucky Derby, has a bruised foot and won't run in Saturday's race.

The gray colt came out of his stall early Friday morning favoring his left front foot, and a disappointed H. James Bond knew immediately his ``special'' horse was hurting.

``I always said if there was a bump on the road I wouldn't do it,'' Bond said of what would have been his first Derby horse. ``There's a bump in the road.''

Buddha, owned by Gary and Mary West, and Came Home were the 5-1 co-second choices in the field, which was reduced to 19 3-year-olds with the withdrawal. Harlan's Holiday is the 9-2 favorite.

Dr. Larry Bramlage, the consulting veterinarian for the Wests, examined Buddha and said more tests are need to determine the extent of the injury. Bond said Buddha was doubtful for the Preakness on May 18.

``All we know now is he's protecting the foot and it's time to get the right diagnosis,'' Bramlage said. ``I know it's disappointing for the connections, but this is the right way to take care of the horse.''

Bond said there was no indication Buddha was bothered by the foot until he came to the barn Friday morning to see the colt.

Buddha, who was to be ridden by Hall of Famer Pat Day, has won all three races this year since Bond took over his training from Bill Mott after the colt's only race as a 2-year-old.

With Buddha out, it means Day will not have a Derby mount for the first time since 1983, ending a consecutive Derby-riding streak of 18 years. Day's first ride aboard Buddha came in the Wood.

For Bond, the disappointment was evident. At a hastily called news conference on the Churchill Downs backside, the 44-year-old New Yorker spoke softly and stared down at the table in front of him.

``We'll have to wait for another day, the timing is terrible,'' he said. ``I am disappointed for my clients and myself. Buddha will have another day. He's a special horse.''
