Colchester: Nepal calling on radio Brought to you by the Evening Gazette Nepal is calling as the world's second Nepali radio programme hits the airwaves - direct from Colchester. Colchester Garrison Radio has teamed up with the BBC World Service to broadcast a half hour programme in Nepali every week night, starting tonight at 7pm. It will be the second of only two Nepali programmes available across the world. To mark the broadcast the station is hosting a special Gurkha supper at its Circular Road East studios. Gurkha curry will be on the menu as 15 chefs from 10 Transport Regiment will be toiling over a hot stove. The programme is not for the ears of soldiers only. Civilian listeners can listen over the internet on www.garrisonradio.com. Garrison Radio director and former Radio 1 DJ Mark Page said: "We're pleased to introduce this new free service to Colchester and hope the Gurkhas enjoy listening to the programme. "We're also hoping to produce a weekly Gurkha show in the next month or two, presented by a Colchester Gurkha soldier, reflecting what's happening in Colchester's Gurkha community." It is broadcast on 1350 AM. Published Wednesday, May 8, 2002 _________________________________________________________________ http://nepalworldnews.com
