When prime minister Girija Koirala returned glumly from Matignon,
the official residence of French PM, we knew that Lionel Jospin,
a socialist prime minister of France, had rejected to enlist
Nepal among the nations receiving its aids.

Well, begging for and receiving aids is not a great thing, anyway.
But some people may be wondering why the nation that masquerades
itself with the facade of liberalism and which courts such
enchanting notions as waiving loans of third world nations in
the international fora refused to include Nepal among the nations
receiving its loan?

And here is an another irony. French demographer, Alfred Sauvy,
coined the term the Third World( tiers monde, in 1952) to describe
the nations with poverty, higher birth rate, corrupt social strata
,rural social structure and those which produce products for
developed world! Which of the criteria Nepal doesn't fulfill?

We say we misused French aid. What about the Togo where French
aid is used to appease military? What about Senegal, Benin ,
Burkina Faso and Algeria where French aid is used to buy weapons
from France? Is there any criteria ,at all? Or if the criteria
is solely determined by being a Francophone nation that
contributes to cultural colonialism of France the proud nation
that is unhappy at the English colonialization of languages?

France tries to be smart by advocating general waiver of third
world nations'loans. So sweet a voice, where only strident voices
of loan sharks of the first world are heard. But let's analyze
this fact: In 1971 UNCTAD seminar in New Delhi(UNCTAD for United
Nations Conference for Trade and Development), it was agreed
that the developed world will set aside one percent of their
national income to third world nations. France doesn't even
reach two third of that criteria set by itself!! There is nothing
to go gaga over French liberalism , afterall.

Hope of aids from France was such an useless effort, even when
Gorgeous Pompidou was prime minister and was trying to assert
France in world arena apart from its traditional foes like
Germany and England (that's when a few dollars started trickling
in to Nepal from Paris!). France ,let's face it, is not that
liberal a nation as our some 'socialist' journalists naively
think of in Nepal.(I don't know why there are plenty of
journalists in Nepal, who have very crazy idea of international
relations. Some think Japan will help Nepal because of Buddhism,
and some think socialists in power will help NC, or communist
in power (China, notably) will help UML. Such a wild guess!!)
France has no reason to give any thing to Nepal, our bilateral
trade merely reaches the price of one airbus in a year.(We sold
stuffs equalling 900 rupees to France last year.) French clothes,
cologne, wines, cars and airbus(main export of France) are above
the reach of as much as 98% Nepalese people.France also doesn't
need to learn Tourism tricks from Nepal, it is itself a major
tourist puller of the world. Apart from a tangential amity of
history, we share nothing now. Janga Bahadur Rana was lucky that
French envied the friendship with him, tried to lure him in
French camp, looked respectfully at him as a rich prince from Asia,
and in fact, there exists a documentation that the most beautiful
and expensive French whore of that time dated Jange.Great Janga
Maharaj, you won the whole world being a Nepali even though
Nepalese people lost to you!

Now, let's stop whining that Girija didn't succeed there. Girija
is never a successful person, anyway. We know he went there just
to avoid the political instability back home. We , Nepalese
populace, now need to stop attacking our leaders for being
unable to pull the donations that is never used for our
development anyway. We need to work hard ourselves, we need to
teach our children from Mechi to Mahakali, and expect from
them a better future even if we fail to carve that out for our
nation. We are poor, and unless we work hard ourselves, we shall
remain so!
