US concerned over Maoist violence The United States is concerned over Maoist violence and attacks against US and international targets in Nepal. The State Department said this in its annual "Patterns of Global Terrorism 2001 Report" released in Washington Tuesday. The US has been increasingly concerned with the recent increase in Maoist violence and has promised to fund the Nepalese military efforts to quell the uprising, the report said. "The Maoists often have used terror tactics in their campaign against the government, including targeting unarmed civilians. Of particular concern is the increase in the number of attacks against international relief organizations and US targets," the report said. The US this year upgraded the Maoist outfit to a terrorist organization. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and President George W. Bush discussed the insurgency in Washington this month. nepalnews.com br May 22
