Well, let's not forget that India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are overpopulated. Nepal, although overpopulated, isn't as populated as the three countries I mentioned above. Our population is slightly above 20 million. Even though this is the case, we still excel in games like soccer, karate, boxing, martial arts, etc, etc. We even had an athlete who represented Nepal in the Winter Olympics. India with population of 1 billion didn't even have one. Devind Thapa, a Boxer in the Bantamweight division is doing pretty well. He is ranked 5 or something. One would assume that a huge country like India would produce good athletes. But that's not the case. You know why? It's coz you folks are weaker than Nepalis.

Dear Friends: It breaks my heart to see people using foul language against our Indian neighbors and also to see that even by Patel's ranking, the only good thing we are good at is soccer. Producing good sports people only is not encouraging. I don't think Nepal could ever be a superpower in South Asia at least not in the near future. However, with hard work and dedicated leaders we could surely turn it into an economic powerhouse. We have natural wonders that could attract tourists from all over, we could export hydro power. Since we are already exceling in sports, we could encourage that field. In addition, we could invest more in IT sector like India and start doing outsourcing jobs for Western countries like US, Australia etc... Let's work together... KG

bahadur are you a bahadr working in india or what? bahadur you said india doesnt produce good athlets but what kind of athlets nepal has? a athlete who became a athlete in nepal soil living in nepal.? who is debind thapa? he was raised in usa soil eating american food and getting help in usa. how many athlets does nepal have who were born and rised and became athlets in nepal? and your olympic representaive in winter olympics was only born in nepal but he was adopted by a british man . your olympian came to uk when he was 4-5. and i also heard he came in last place in utah. you saying that india doesnt have any athlets. what about sachin tandukar? what about our cricket team? what about our field hockey team? look where we have reached in cricket, we are like the best cricket playing nation. our field hockey association is one of the finest of asia. our national sport is cricket and look where we are in cricket and look what kind of cricket players india produces. i heard nepals national sport is soccer but look you guys are behind india in a sport that is your national sport and the sport that you people play alot.even bangladesh and srilanka are ahad of you in soccer and their national sport is cricket too. if you dont believe me go lloook in www.fifa.com . we emphisize our people on cricket and look at our cricket team. look at the nepal soccer team. it cant even win saarc games . how can it qualify in fifa world cup? and nepal is behind india in fifa ranking. india is like in 120th plae and nepal is like 156th. so bahadur dont compare india to nepal because india is way ahead of nepal in everything like economy, sports, defence, intellegence , and other things. but bahadur jee i really appreciate you for having the guts to compare nepal to india. you are the 1st person to have the guts to speak out and compare india and nepal. thanks buddy jay india jay nepal hamara desh mahan your friend patel singh

As I said before, you have an advantage due to your population. If Nepal had as much population as India, Pakistan or Bangladesh, we would most probably be way ahead of you. About Devind Thapa, he was actually born and raised in Nepal. I think he even won a medal in Olympics, although he opted to play for India. However, proportionally speaking, we are doing much better than India in Olympics. Nepalis are naturally gifted in the athletic/physical department, if you ask me. That's why we are hired as merceneries in the UK and India. Nepalis are basically used as cannon fodder by the two countries I mentioned above. India also uses people from virtually all Himalayan states as cannon fodder(Uttaranchal, Sikkim, Himachal, etc). India is OK in cricket. I don't get dazed while watching your people play like I do while watching Australia or other powerhouses. But I'm not gonna deny the blatant fact that Sachin Tendulkar is an exceptional player. With 1 billion people focusing on just one game -Cricket-, athletes in that game are expected to be exceptional. And yet, you aren't as good as countries with lower population. Why?? Also, we were ranked second in Youth Cricket championship. That just points to the burgeoning popularity of Cricket in Nepal. Let's watch and see who rules Cricket in a decade or two...

Well . Here is one Patel claiminig himself to be an indian and knows more about Nepal than India. Just to correct you the official National sport of India is Hockey not Cricket. And Cricket .. How many people in this whole world are interested in Cricket except few in the old British colonies ? I dont have anything against comparing each other but If you really want to compare , try to compare india with some other similiar countries . , for example China. then you will find where India stands .

well said superpower. patel singh, do you even remember what your thread was about? it was about super powers in south asia, or do you mean cricket is your only power? that too, i'm sad to put it so blatantly, is the leftover of colonialism. i always knew indians to make good use of leftovers, you just happenned to prove it by speaking it out so honestly, and, i don't think it is a good idea to compare with your neighbors. look at what's brewing between your country and pakistan. shall i say, happy bombing one another? LOL

bahadur jee you guys are not hired by uk and india as merceneries but as slaves. why would you risk your life for other country? answer this question to me very thoughtfully bahadur jee because i dont understand why nepalis go to foreign countries and fight for foreign countries? is it for the money or is it just that they dont care about their lives? arent the states of sikkim, utteranchal and himachal indian states? doesnt matter which state we go in india to find mans for defenceor athlets as long as we arent crossing to other country. we dont go to other country to fght. we arent that dumb to risk our lives for other country. no indian goes to fight for other country. you also raise the bahadurs in nepal but when they are jawans they go to fight for other country and return when they are old and when they cant contribute nothing to nepal ..i allude you my nepali friends for having such a smart ideas to go and being a slave for other country . and you said debind thapa played in olympics for india? what a shame on you guys. you guys raised the player and he come and wins a medal for india. and you think this is something to be proud of bahadur jee?? bahadur you got 24 million people focusing on 1 game and thats soccer but is nepal reconized to the world as a soccer powerhouse? nepal is placed 156th in the latst fifa world ranking. the game of cricket that we indians focuse on sooo much, its worth every thing because we are the cricket playing nation in south asia and 2 or 3 in the world. super power jee i am not comparing china to india or israel to nepal. i am posting as i stated above on my 1st posting discussion on south asia and tings that mtter to south asians. i dont think that you are that brain less that you cant read . anyways brothers and sisters thanks for taking part in the discussion and it has been a pleasure getting to know a little bit more on my friends from nepal and their views on the south asia region. jay india jay nepal patel singh

Patel, Please answer me why india is uninterested(unwilling) to make necessary change in unequal treaties of 1950, 1965 and others which are already outdated. It is shame for you that country of more than 1 billion population has to compare with small country nepal to be proud in sports field. Do you know India's position in OLYMPIC GAMES ??????????? When will you compete with china in Olympic games?? AFTER 100 YEAR ???????? >>bahadur you got 24 million people focusing on 1 game and thats soccer DO you think nepal is only focussed in soccer? There are many sports in which nepal did excelled in south asia and asia. If you are proud for cricket we are also proud for ELEPHANT POLO in which sports nepal has been world champion for many times. May be you are not so familiar with this sports but cricket is also unfamilar for most of the countries in the world except british colonial countries like india and few other countries.

Uh, if we were hired as slaves, then why do we get paid? Gurkhas in the UK make more $$$ than Indian generals, ya know. Those that can't get to the UK (it's really hard to get hired in the British Gurkha army) may opt to go to India. Hey, anything is better than living a hard life in a remote village somewhere in Western Nepal! Ok, now, talking about slaves, let's get a few facts straight. - You were the ones who were attacked/raped by the Aryans who came from Central Asia circa 1500 BC - You were the ones who were raped by the Huns/Scythians that invaded India in 300 BC - You were the ones ruled by Moghuls(Muslims) for centuries - You were the ones ruled by Gurkhas for decades - You were the ones ruled by the Brits till the middle of the 20th century Now tell me, who are the real slaves. You, or us? It's like this. While it is true that we are poorer than India, we don't die in huge numbers b/c of natural calamity, like you do. Just take the Gujarat earthquake, for example. Nepalis are more like in stone age; we can hunt, gather food, make our own huts, etc. Majority of Indians, on the other hand, haven't even reached the paleolithic era. You have millions living in the streets. Even I was flabbergasted to see thousands of indigents begging for money in streets of Delhi. It's not that bad in Nepal. We are better at helping ourselves. As I said before, one would expect better results from a gargantuan country like India. Look at the United States, or Russia, for instance. They win lots of medals. Why can't India do the same. Is it b/c you reek with inferiority physically???

if it weren't for the brave GURKHAS, your country would've been gobbled up by PAKISTAN al long time back. thank your gods that they've given you friends in the form of GURKHA SOLDIERS. By the way, your own race, that is sikhs, are despised, looked down upon in India, why don't you guys build your own nation, do you really need to depend on the hindu majority for your daily hand to mouth problems? or is it because you sikhs are slaves of Indian Hindus? i know a million sardars around the world who work as doormen, need i put it here? will you first fix that problem at your own doorstep before you start looking at your neighbor's? At least we nepalis live in a sovereign country and are proud to declare that we have a country of our own.

Patel Singh, Does it not please you to see that you are the powerhouse among the two: Nepal and India. It does not displease me, it is a fact (I knew it when I went to India about 20 years ago). But still I would compare my country's statistics with China, Japan, USA so that I come to really know how deep Nepal is in the shit. Any way good job Patel and your country!

and the referee's whistle stops play. it appears that patel singh is going to be...yes! out it comes--a red card for patel singh for bomb-throwing. it looks like the indian squad will have to play on without him for the rest of the series. as patel singh leaves the pitch, the stadium erupts in jeers and boos to see him off... if things between "injure" and "funkistan" keep going badly, one stat could change: life expectancy--highest to lowest-- 1) maldives 2) sri lanka 3) bangladesh 4) nepal 5) bhutan 6) injure/funkistan
