I am about to do my Adjustment of Status for the Green card. Some friends informed me that I might not get the green card, if I have worked in the US illegally because the INS will do a SSN check.

Does anyone know about it? Do you have any advice?

Even if you worked illegally, you can still apply for AOS using 245i law(paying $1000 as fine) in your advantage if you are here in the USA before or on Dec 21st 2000. I am doing the same.

Please consult the couple of good immigration lawyers. I hope you have a lawyer and if not I would advised you to have one ASAP since there are quite a few new laws/regulations changing frequently. It is hard for us to keep up.

I was just informed by my lawyer that I needed to have received my Labor Certification by 1996 to be able to apply for Adjustment of Status.

Do you think I could omit these unauthorized employments from my application for Adjustment of Status? Would they do a thorough check to find out??

OK, people, here's your lesson for the day in American expressions:

"Loose lips sink ships" (circa World War II)

(Translation: People who talk indiscretely about sensitive matters endanger not only themselves but also others around them.)

By the way, I am not trying to silence anyone or sweep anything under the rug. I am just offering a word of caution. What you do is your own business.

Voodoonut,

Your lawyer's answer is not correct. BTW, where do you live? so that I can refer to good lawyer. In fact, you can still adjust your status. Advise is, leave that lawyer and try another. I mean do not loose your time!!!!. YOU CAN DO THIS AND YOU WILL ADJUST IT,

vodoo beta,

Voodoo Nut, when is your priority date on the labor certification or I-130 form? If it is before April 30, 2001 you are grandfathered under the 245(i) Life Act. You can adjust your status by filing a I-485 suppliment and a $1000 fine. If your priority date is after April 30, 2001, then you are not eligible for 245(i) and hence cannot do a AOS (if you have been out of status by working illegally)

If you don't declare that you worked illegally, would they find out?
