If you had to name one place in Nepal where you have never been but want to go, where would it be and why (try to keep it brief)?

Great question! It's tough to answer though. I think topping my list of places is Muktinath.

Kapilvasthu, Lumbini. I have always wondered where Nepal would be now if Siddartha Gautam had gone on to become a great warrior rather than the great saint, the two possibilities the royal priests had predicted for him.

That strip covering Dolpa, Mustang, and Manang, and come down to Tanahun along the Marshyangdi. Why? I've long been fascinated by David Snellgrove's old travel accounts through the Tibetan speaking belts of Nepal; and enjoyed a piece of it when I trekked to the Manaslu area which was terrific - serene and unspoilt. Almost NO tourists. This was almost 10 years ago, in 1993.

When I first browsed this thread, without reading second posting, I immediately poped out Muktinath as my destination, that I wash I can go on foot with my kids, if not possible on foot, I wish I can go with my parents by air , because they can not walk so many days to reach to Muktinath, which they walked in their younghood. I remember the days, when peoples in my villages (from my own family too) joined a batallain of travelors to Muktinath (60 persons from that single village), wow, going to Muktinath for a week or 2 week long trip, loaded on their back with foods (chamal to daal, and geda gudi). what a great motivation they had? That was probably the last time I heard peoples in such bulk travelled to Muktinath, and that event always chase me to find days to reach to Muktinath. I specially, remember these 60+ peoples gathered in our open to sky school (our school was new and we did not have building, but, we had classes on open air) campus. The experiences they shared with my gaule after they returned with their long trip, "usale yasto garyo ... usto garyo ... ko kaha chhutyo ... ko chhito hidyo .... ko dhilo pugyo . . .... who met whom .... the language problem they faced .... ". Thats in fact great story of travelors I heard first time, live, until that time, we kids used to make joke that tyo himal chai Rajale fadkinsakcha re? We used to imagine what can be outside those tall mountains? .... I was there and now here, but, still not reached to Muktinath. I really feel disappointed to add this place as my destination..... from those days to now. I really feel very thirst for Muktinath. Rajale hoina, aba afai fadimarera janu chha. One more place that I would like to go is HANSPUR? / Karaputar?, the golden triangle made by Kaski, Tanahu and Lamjung, I heard so? This place is usually, a site where mass "Bratabandha " is carried out, just the way now peoples do in Deughat. Well, I had been to Deughat several time after crossing the deadly narayani on boat, but, never crossed in the new suspension bridge. Well, its another hub where peoples want to go when they get old, and my grandfather to my father, all used to make real joke that we kids don't have to worry about them to take care of them when they get old, because Deughat is such an wonderful place they can have safe and nice old days. unfortunately, I am not going to get any pension in my old days to come, so can not give similar bluffs to my kids. I feel so sad that I can not think of enjoying the life at Deughat, well, if Internet reaches to Deughat, then, I can be in touch with virtual Deughat and will be preaching as Hahoo!Guru rest of my life as if in Deughat. Hey guys, if you are thinking of returning to Nepal in NRN visa after you get social security based pension, then, think of buying a small piece of land and making hut in that triangle of Narayani Zone, Lumbini and Gandaki zone, and there Kaligandaki and Trishuli meet, after which we call it Narayani. Well, Indians call it Gandak. HG

Gosainkunda. Me too. I had read Ramesh Vikal's book about his travel to Gosainkunda a long time ago. He calls it Shangri-la.

I understand that some people are great writers but a thread like this is better brief than a detailed explanation, don't you think?

Purva ji, Pathivara lies in my VDC. It is really worth visiting. I'm planning to go there this year during my visit home during the summer, if possible. But my actual yearn is for the ' Forbidden city of the past, LOMANTHANG!'.

Few places I would like to visit/revisit: 1. Milke Danda: (Extends about 16) . Famous for Rhododendron conservation . Ranges from 2600 masl to 4400 masl (8500 - 14000 ft) . Entry point 3100 meter above sea level . Just less than 2 hours walking from Basantapur bus park . Panoramic view of from the top of hill. . Further walking for two days to Guphapokhari gives you full satisfaction. . Best time to visit: May - June. (Rhododendron are in full bloosom). . Spellbounding layers of white, pink and dark red rhododendron forests.... . Take a bus from Dharan to Basantapur. . That's all... then rely on your own feet and enjoy nature. 2. Ranke/ Sudap: (Probably the highest point in Nepal accessible by road) . Winding roads... cool weather... local people . First part of visit: Charali (Jhapa) to Ilam. . Second part: Ilam to Phidim (Panchthar) . Interesting for anthropologists and sociologists, high hill agriculturists 3. Mustang: (Lhomanthang and Muktinath): . I don't think I need to explain this any further. . Take a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom and return on foot. Other places next time...

My brainy grand father died in Muktinath while looking for 'jadi buti' and my husband had a near-death experience one thousand meter below Thorang-La. I never got to pass the highest Pass in the world! And even though I was 6 hours away (by foot of course) from Muktinath, I had to come down - fast. I forgot why now! Maybe guide problem. Besides these two, I would like to see Gosaikunda. when I read about this place a long long time ago in 'Dharmayug' , the place sounded magical.

Halesi: Take the uphill trip to Bettani Bhanjyang from Katari and then hike down to Limpha Tar and Rupa Tar. There you will run into the mighty Sun Koshi river. Follow the Sun Koshi and cross the Gad at Rai Tar and then climb tye deadly "ukalo" to Halesi. Guru Ringpoche (Padmasambhav) and Mahadev are believed to have meditated there. Halesi - that is one place that is in my heart. Halesi Ko Yatri

Halesi......... Take the unhill "gorate bato" from Katari to Bettani Bhanjyang. Then trek down to the mighty Sun Koshi river through Limphatar and Rupatar. Follow the Sun Koshi river for half a day and then cross the "gad' at Rai Tar. Then take the "jyan mara ukalo" to Halesi. It is is worth the trip. Guru Ringpoche (Padmasambhav) and Lord Mahadev are believed to have meditated in the caves at Halesi. It is worth the trip. For those that do not want to hike up from Katari - take the Biratngar-Lami Danda flight and then hike for another 5 to 6 hours and you will arrive at Halesi. Halesi ko Yatri
