In honor of the onset of monsoon season, please complete the following, if you wish:

My favorite memory of monsoon in Nepal is__________________________
_BP Posted on 06-Jun-02 04:02 AM

Forgetting my raincoat and getting completely drenched on the way home from school (Jawalakhel to Chhauni) on my bicycle, with my friend Ashish Bhadra who didn't forget his.

By the way, does anyone know of his whereabouts? Ashu? Perhaps you do?

Was a stormy rainy day back in 1988 during my college year. While returning from college, I was struggling to protect myself with this tiny raincoat I had. This 7/8 year old kid was standing in the middle of the road in Siphal (near Chabel) and singing with his eyes closed, completely wet..."Janu ko meel gaya banu..tinini ..tiri tiri tiri...."
Oh God! I never can forget that scene.

My favorite memories of monsoon was in Jhapa. The whole reainy season. At night the rain drops would hit the tin roof and make this very soothing sound. Ani vaygutta haru le najik ko nali haru bata karako hawaj tyo pani ko hawaj sanga milera niskeko hawaj le majja le nidra lagthyo. ma kaile bisranna ti raat haru.

Monsoon is for football at a “hilamye” public high school ground. Sliding tackles, wet and heavy jersey, struggle to control a slippery ball, shower after “thakaune” hour or two of running around and “tato tato dal, bhat, tarkari”.
suna Posted on 07-Jun-02 10:02 AM

Pitter-patter on the tin roofs
umbrellas gallore
chata fights
dirty puddles
AND
tato tato penang's momos with soup!!
Kancho Posted on 07-Jun-02 11:27 AM

I was coming back from college on my bicycle one day. It started to rain real heavy near Singh Durbar so I put on my Poncho raincoat. But when I got to Kupandole it was all sunny. Peti ma hindai gareko eiuta le " kyaa ullu raicha, tanna ghaam lako bela raincoat layera cycle chalauncha" bhaner comment garya.

Didn't know whether to stop and explain that it was raining in Singh Durbar or just keep paddling and ignore him.

I got lot of strange stares from people until I took it off after the Hariharbhawan ko ukalo.

My brother and I used to race paper boats in the flooded kulo beside the road.
E_Sajha Posted on 07-Jun-02 12:57 PM

One evening in monsoon;
Chabel ma I was riding my bike back home. There was puddle every where (you know how it is….with ever going battle between dhal nikas samiti and sadak bibhag) and I had a really bad accident, broke my leg ended up in hospital for like a month. Found out that puddle was because of “banda nagare ko dhal ko birko (…that metal ring)”.

If it were like in here I would have been a millionaire by suing sadak bibhag, but poor me, and my parents for all their expenses in the hospital.

Why is there so much digging and “puring” in all the streets in KTM. Will it ever end?
