Kanak Mani Dixit, editor of Himal, recently did his "pharka hay pharka" presenation at Martin Chautari in Thapathali in Kathmandu. He prefaced his talk by saying that that he had done a version of the presentation in Boston last January, and was thankful to all in Boston who had helped him, espcially the GBNC Council members. Though, for reasons best explained in a separate essay elsewhere, I personally do NOT find Kanak's arguments for "pharka" persuasive, one can nonetheless appreciate the energy and enthusiasm he has put forth to push the issue forward. He's even been interviewed by FM radio stations in KTM, and, everytime that happens, he does not forget to credit GBNC for providing him a platform earlier this year to test some of the "pharka" ideas. He told the audience at Martin Chautari the other day that the Nepali-language Himal Khabar-patrika is bringing out a cover story on the "pharka" issue. If so, those of you who are Himal subscribers, do look forward to GBNC gaining some prominence in Nepali media!! oohi ashu
