Typhoid engulfs Chitwan, two nurses die of malaria

CHITWAN, June 9 - The epidemic of typhoid has trapped thousands of people of Chitwan district which has caused over crowd in the Bharatpur Hospital here.

(From Kantipuronline.com)

Bad thing in a good place. I always loved Chitwan.

You're definitely right, Sparsha. Bad things in good place, but it happened. Hope
it won't spread.

Its sad that typhoid, malaria which could be avoided with just
minor cautions, are spreading so wildly? I suspect following
reasons:

1. Typhoid: Main reason for typhoid is bad water. When rains,
the water supply department (unfortunately, an organization for
which I worked for sometime) supplies the water without
enough filter, and also without chlorination. It happens
a. because water supply department peoples don't have
fund to perform those things. b. They have budget, but,
in paper they fulfill all use of filtering device or chlorination.

They don't have sense of responsibility, and some have
such feelings, but, they can not do any thing. Those who
are in power (with control of Budget), will think it great chance
to make money from crisis, i.e. they sell chlorine to private
companies, and in paper they say its used. Unless there is
cross check i.e. monitoring of water and its chlorine contents,
would surely bring the facts out. BharatPur being Nagar Palika
should have enough resources to chlorinate water. Drink boiled
water, you will never get typhoid. Typhoid has no other reason
than water, lateral transfer is also minimum if you strictly drink
boiled water.

2. Malaria: The humid weather in chitwan with high temperature
sometime upto 40C is really dangerous to get malaria when the
agricultural field is occupied by "makai ko season?" or ponds
in the field just before or after rice padding.

Other reasons:
In 2038-2040, when I was in hostel with 165 students,
about 80% of the students got infected by "Jaundice"
--..haat khutta pahelo hune rog..---, and that time when
I visited Naradevi ... hospital, to a friend of mind
there was no space in the hospital, because Jaundice is
epidimically expanded everywhere. The reason people
said was the Surya Mukhi fuul (sun-flower) ko Oil that
was imported from Poland by Surya Bahadur Thapa
(then PM) and his gang, and the oil was low in quality
and was said to be not manufactured for kitchen use.
In market it came in such flood that you did not have
option to it, so peoples consumed it and finally suffered
from Jaundice. After sometime, when peoples rejected
the oil by using Shanti Banaspati Ghyu, which got hit
the store. The epidimic got cooled down.

From these historical dark day stories, what we have to
go and look at the market is what is New arrival in the
market that might have caused the epidimic? New things,
that look fancy, but, come without real quality checks are
always the reason for such epidimic. The peopels in power
say "ek choti ta ho ni, j hola hola, kasale k garcha" and
they throw such worst thing in Market. I am sure, there
must be some new thing in Chitwan, that reached most
household as flux .... shuuuuuuuuttta... bhancha ma chhiryo
ni. Check it out.

So, check whether water was processed well ? Filtered well? if not
boil it. (I am not in medicine, but, I had studied a few courses in public
water supply system and water quality checks and done experiments
on quality of water: BOD, e-coli bacteria to b-coli .... to COD checks.
I worked in Lalitpur District Water Supply Office, I had seen, felt
and almost got trapped in the corruptions. How my good intentioned
proposals were misued not only by my hakim, but, that bastard / son of bitch
minister at that time, he employed his "dog" the bhanche for the post which I
initiated, and recommended to be appointed from the local people, and that
was what I promised with the local peoples. I can now feel the typhoid might have been caused by similar idiots in power at ministry level, who might have sold chlorine and in paper showed to be used in the water supply tank).

I feel sorry to hear the news, but, I can imagine the scenarios in the backyard.
