Roy Keane, the Ireland No 10, is my Wrold Cup star of the first round. I wanted Spain, who are a much more talented side than their World Cup history shows, to advance, but felt sorry for the young Keane when Ireland lost in a penalty shootout today. He is a workhorse, and is devastatingly swift in the air. If you have missed his goal scoring exploits, I strongly recommend that you watch Ireland's firstround matches again. He makes amazing moves in the air when he lunges for the ball in front of the goalpost, and he's got so much variety and speed, he leaves the defenders gasping. I didn't see any single player make so much differene to his side's fortune. Alas, he didn't have a battery of forwards and midfielders to support him...That's why I always say this...some great footballers - Enzo Scifo of Belgium who marshaled the midfield in the 90s, and Marcelo Salas of Chile (the 1998 Cup), for example - could never make their mark in the World Cup. Football is a team game. While singing songs about Pele and Maradonna, it would be nice to also remember their comrades in arm, the unsong heroes.

Is Roland o a vastly overestimated player? I feel he his. I haven't seen his European circuit expoits--just read about them. But at World Cup, where it matters most, he's yet to live up to the great expectations.

Ronaldo, rather. Sorry ahout the mis-spelling. Also found out that the site doesn't accept words that may sound vulgar :) Try posting Roland-o.
