Bhaktapur Medieval Mania…and ancient enthusiasm... The bustle of an unreal city, Unveiled volatile by the smog... Of burnt Ashes and Dusty squalor... Deemed almost concealed, By prehistoric monuments and mute sculptures! Time travel now..... You voyagers from far and wide... Leave the cosmetics of civilization aside.. As you hear the.. The ancient ghosts and spirits in your veins, As you walk with the hoary.... Of the fearless warrior clan, And as you feel.. The taste of blood and war in your hands! You get swept away by the smell of victory , And feel like a Gurkha with a Khukuri! The Kingdom that was… Still is....For every niche and crevice, Is art imitating life of the ages. Every open window.... And every closed door... Has a story to tell. The workman ship intricate…Almost intimate, With The Spirit of Nepal Screaming Alive…! Even in the street vendor’s voice You hear the primal calling of the wild, Scattered somewhat in the present.... Uneasy with the pace of modern technology, The harmony within lies As a white haired Nepalese man smokes a ‘bidi’ Squatted in brick laden steps, And looks nonchalantly steady, Amongst all that has happened in history. Those ancient eyes..... Have only seen shifts of generations, This place, this street, this bronze figure… A status quo of civilization Bhaktapur…Almost a fossilized city, Founded by the Malla Dynasty, Still reeks of artistic prosperity, And enigmatic history! A poem From " Verses From the Himalayas" copyright@2000

Dear Adwiti: This is yet another nice poem from you. I like the description of each houses, people(if you talking about Jyapus there,I am not sure if they smoke Bidi or Hukkaa!), and your rueful observation that Bhaktapur remained in status quo of civilization. However, hey, I have heard Bhaktapur is far better now. The squalor you observed are thrown away, the cluttered roads are swept, and the ancient city is recapturing its former beauty. By the way, I just wanted to mention here for other reader's sake, that one lady from audience told Adwiti after she recited her poem (the function that I also attended two days ago): "Your hands are the most beautiful hands I have ever seen".Hopefully, her poems will also attain that praise in the future.
