It finally happens...

Crown Prince Paras heads council

For the first time, King Gyanendra appointed his son Crown Prince Paras head of a council of royal representatives and to his charge the duties of the monarch before leaving for a six-day state visit of India later Sunday evening, a Royal palace announcement said.

Queen Komal is also accompanying the King. The King leaves for India after attending the first death anniversary function of his younger brother, Dhirendra Shah, according to the lunar calendar.

The King had vowed not to travel abroad during the one-year mourning period for members of the royal family and relatives killed in a June 1 shoot-out at the Narayanhiti Royal Palace.

(why had king vowed not to travel for one year??)

King is doing the right thing.

-He did not travel for a year as he said he would not.
-The ties between Nepal and India needs to be revamped.

King will bring much needed "practical" Indian support to Nepal based on trust and goodwill.
sparsha Posted on 23-Jun-02 11:32 AM

Paras is now the caretaker head of the state. This is according to the constitution, I believe. Paras is already declared the crown prince.

"For the first time, King Gyanendra appointed his son Crown Prince Paras head of a council of royal representatives and to his charge the duties of the monarch before leaving for a six-day state visit of India later Sunday evening, a Royal palace announcement said. "

So, what is the BFD?
Party Invitation Posted on 23-Jun-02 11:35 AM

It is party time.
Satya Posted on 24-Jun-02 01:14 PM

Yes it is according to the constitution. There is nothing wrong with it. No question at all. We are janata and must obey the lord - the king - who is above the constitution. There is no problem to have a suspected-murderer as our care taker king. He is also above the constitution anyway. And he is not proved guilty, that is he is innocent. Vishun has changed the avatar from king Birendra to king Gyanendra. I wonder why he changed his mind suddenly and so violently. Lord Vishnu missed Dipendra. I belive he is happy to be born as beloved king Paras! No wonder we have Maobadis while communism is almost a history! We have a wise king - no king could be a fool except the emperor in his new clothes!

We the Nepali janats are wise enough to see the emperor's new clothes!

-Satya
Da'Man Posted on 24-Jun-02 02:22 PM

Satya ji,
what kind of utter nonsence is all this? I couldn't get a single thing u were trying to hammer accross - who named u satya when u blabber such nonsense???? I think the only person who's followed the constitution so far has been King Gyanendra and i would like to give him a chance. I think we are all tired of the Nepali "We can't agree on anything" Congress and the UMLs and the RPPs. They are the main reason the country is where it is today. They should all be hanged. Give the guy a chance - will ya????
Ra'Man Posted on 24-Jun-02 02:57 PM

Da'Man is right. Gyanendra has followed the constitution. So he deserves to rule Nepal. There is a small problem though. It turns out that I have also followed the constitution, so must have Da'Man and so must have Satya and so must have other 2 Crore Nepalis. So, now do I deserve to be the ruler of the kingdom ?

Down with Democracy. Long live Monarchy. Give Gyanendra a chance. Absolute power back to the palace. Panchayat Jindabad. Dr. Tulsi Giri, come home.
pot Posted on 24-Jun-02 03:14 PM

Last time when Paras was caught smoking pot, he was expelled from luther college

Today, he is smoking kalo padartha in palace and he is the head of our state

Next time when the drunkard heads to England to smoke ganza, we will be celebrating national holiday!

Who says NO to holidays?
Sus Posted on 24-Jun-02 05:09 PM

This is all bull-shit!!!
All the so called royal families can go to hell. I wish everyday for their short life.
I wish they're dead.
A$$$holes.

Sus, are you a bit slow ?
Ra'Man Posted on 24-Jun-02 06:32 PM

No, Sus is not slow. He is rather fast. Instead of choosing a long and difficult path of struggle to oust the monarchy, he wishes for a miraculous and immediate end of them. Call it childish, but who would prefer a prolonged bloodshed to end the monarchy ?
kohokoho Posted on 24-Jun-02 06:55 PM

To me, it seemed Sus did not understand Ra'man's sarcasicm. or may be i am too slow :)
Well... Posted on 24-Jun-02 06:57 PM

Look, it's inherent in the Nepali tradition to NEVER be happy. There was a monarchy...it didn't work...then there was democracy (same old corrupt "politicians" came into power)...it didn't work...then there were Maoists trying to create a revolution through violence...it didn't work...now we're back to the very monarchy everyone was unhappy with all in the span of 12 years. Are we a nation full of people that don't want anything more for ourselves than bickering with no resolve? I don't know...I'm not here to give any answers but, I remain frustrated by the way people are so quick to react negatively without taking a closer look at why things might be happening. If we want things to change we need to be more active and really do something rather than sitting in front of a computer and throwing out statements that need interpretation or just don't promote anything more than frustration. Well...whatever...so C.P. Paras is gaining control...what are we going to do about it? Do we have faith that maybe he's finally going to take responsibility for a country that he too is a part of and will represent in the future as King? Let's hope so...
CR Posted on 24-Jun-02 07:10 PM

Its not 'same old corrupt "politicians" came into power',
but 'a new set of corrupt "politicians" came into power'.
patriot Posted on 25-Jun-02 02:39 AM

Why? If Sher Bahadur Deuba can be the President of "Nepali Congress", any thing can happen in this country. If Arju Deuba can represent Nepal at the Nepal Aid Group meeting, any thing can happen in this country. Pray for Paras.
kohokoho Posted on 25-Jun-02 05:42 AM

what's wrong with shere being the president of "NC" ?
