In this flurry of poetry on this site I humbly submit the following song I wrote while in state of inspiration in the great land of France. It shows I too have a place in the grand literary tradition of my family. This poem competed against many others and was voted winner by 23 million people. Please sing it to the tune of the famous French tune “The Can-Can.” It is best seen in motion, I am kicking my legs in the air doing a can-can dance. Can can, can you do the can can Once I was a great man History would have been a fan Of my role in janaandolan But I had no gyan gyan Only lots of great plan In words but not in action Which is Nepali tradition So now I am an old man Sitting on my can can Just care about my clan clan Just like Ranashasan I say “be off to ashcan” To rest of population Maybe I will get canned canned But do not cry for me, man The way it is in our land Most wise and honest have no dhan Or flee to become american Even parliamentarian Who start out proletarian Soon sell out for Pajero van So those like me will keep command in land of aaphno man- che, that’s all I really can say. Humbly submitted to your voracious appetite for literature, The Poet Laureate of Nepal, Girija
