dear freinds
i my opinion i think nepal should have military rule like pakistan. prajowl sumsher rana (the chief of royal nepal army) should be like prevez musharaff of neal and then we are likely to see changes in nepal. the army is capable of doing development work and things like that and develope our nation.
what do you say friends??
Biswo Posted on 30-Jun-02 02:51 PM

You know what friend, Prajwal's barking are best ignorable. To think that
dictators like Ranas or Shahs can change our country is to delude ourselves.

Let's take our military as an example. It has been led consistently by some
Ranas or Shahs or their kins. And it remains the most corrupt, most elitist
and to some extent, most pretentious, organization in the country. At
least, in other institutions, one can go up by virtue of his talents. In military,
one can be head of the institution only if his sirname jives with the
established and 'acceptable' ones.

Prajwal ranted against leaders once. Well, probably he was right about our
leaders. But the pedestal in which he stood didn't provide him that authority.
RNA , led by king and Ranas, IS still the most nepotist organization where
without having one's relative in the higher post, one can't be inducted in.
Even caste used to be factor, and being Nepali national alone wasn't sufficient
criterion to be treated fairly. Mahalekha's auditing still is a joke there, and I
know some people personally who gave some gift to the Rana generals just
to be selected to go to Croatia, UNIFIL. Generals in RNA still rule with their
roving and unhallowed lust to power, not with the feeling for poor Nepali.

Prajwal's tenure was reportedly to be over within a month(Himal magazine
reported this during that infamous speech time). I hope with his exit, we will
get a fair and capable leadership in army. RNA is our pride, and it deserves
fair leadership. Did some one said General Rukmangat Katuwal??
manashalu Posted on 01-Jul-02 11:00 AM

I think PYARJUNG THAPA is also in line of candidate for post of the COAS along with rukmangat katuwal. Anyway, this time it seems that general with no 'JBR' title is becoming army chief in nepal.
Horizon Posted on 01-Jul-02 02:15 PM

Not so fast guys. The word out there is that Prajowl Sumsher's tenture will be extended by a year along with the addition of 20,000 soldiers.
Biswo Posted on 01-Jul-02 03:03 PM

I hope prospective influx of greenbacks is not making him unwilling to go.

There was this poor guy in one of my friend's village whose house was destroyed
during one arsony. The panchayat made a certificate, "Mr XXX's house was burnt in
this and this circumstance, so please help him if you can...." The gentleman showed
that paper for the subsequent decade and more to everyone he saw and made
a living out of that.

I hope Maoist problem hasn't been something like that arsony to our rulers. They
have already , indubitably, started using this national problem for their personal
benefit though.

You hit right on the money Biswo. Any one who thinks military dictatorship is the solution to nepal's woes is outright fool who doesn't what what he/she is talking about. Look at our military institution..look at how it is run and who is running it. It hasn't changed since the time of our supposedly great ruler Mr Prithivi Narayan. The military is so much aloof of of the present day democratic norms. It is pretty much a bodyguard of the reactionary forces of Nepal's higher class, that being Rana's and Saha's and their Chamchaz. I hope people open their eyes and think rationally. Good Luck.
nelalkochoro Posted on 01-Jul-02 03:20 PM

There is no justice in Nepal. Too much corruption, too much naata bad, racism is at the peak, all kinds of abuse you can imagine and what not..Here's an example

CHIEFS OF RNA
(royal nepal army)
Commander-in-Chief General Keshar Shumsher JB Rana
13 May 1951 to 15 Nov 1951

Commander-in-Chief General Kiran Shumsher JB Rana
Dec 1951 to 20 May 1956

Commander-in-Chief General Toran Shumsher JB Rana
21 May 1956 to 27 Apr 1760

Commander-in-Chief General Nir Shumsher JB Rana
21 May 1960 to 27 Apr 1965

Commander-in-Chief General Surendra Bahadur Shah
20 May 1965 to 11 May 1970

Commander-in-Chief General Singh Bahadur Basnet
15 May 1970 to 10 May 1975

Commander-in-chief General Guna Shemsher JB Rana
15 May 1975 to 15 May 1979

Chief of Army Staff General Singh Pratap Shah
15 May 1979 to 15 May 1983

Chief of Army Staff General Arjun Narshing Rana
16 May 1983 to 15 May 1987

Chief of Army Staff General Satchit Shemsher JB Rana
16 May 1987 to 4 May 1991

Chief of Army Staff General Gadul Shemsher JB Rana
15 May 1991 to 15 May 1995

Chief of Army Staff General Dharmapal Barsingh Thapa
15 May 1995 to 15 May 1999

Chief of Army Staff General Prajwalla Shumsher JB Rana
19 May 1999 to Till Date

I don't know how one thapa and one basnet made it. Other than that, it's all the ranas and shahs. Bring them outside their firewall and they are the "lutes" and "catars" of us all.
Rana Regime in Power Posted on 02-Jul-02 01:44 PM

If Nepalese Army takes Nepal to rule, that means Rana Regime is back. Isn't it?

How do you answer to the true nepalese patriots who gave their lives for nepal and nepalese? Is their lives value to you?
Gorkha Uttar Bahu Posted on 03-Jul-02 02:46 AM

The Basnet and Rana you mention made it because they were related to Rana-Shah through marraige.
Gorkha Uttar Bahu Posted on 03-Jul-02 02:48 AM

Ooops, that should have been Basnet and Thapa related to Rana-Shaha
