Hi all, Plugging some friends' effort. Sarita Mishra, who is one of Nepal's leading young (female) tabala-players and Salil Subedi -- a young writer, musician, performance artist and much, much more -- are doing an interesting musical JAM SESSION at Himalayan Java Coffee House in Thamel on Saturday, July 6 at 5 pm. Sarita, a formally trained classical musician, will be playing tabala, of course; while Salil, a self-taught musician, will be playing an Australian aboriginal musical instrument callled didgeridoo. Their fusion music, which I had had a chance to listen to a few times already, has hypotic, entrancing quality -- and is bound to be enjoyed all the more with Himalayan Java's famous cafe lattes and utterly sinful Bhaktapur brownies. :-) Admission: FREE To learn more about this Australian baajaa: http://www.wadidge.com.au/ http://aboriginalart.com.au/didgeridoo/music.html oohi ashu ktm, nepal

Hi all, This jam-session went quite well at Himalayan Java Coffee House in Thamel last Saturday, playing, as it did, to a packed house of writers, poets, artists, journalists and other musicians. A very special thanks to all the Australian friends who showed up from Australian Embassy. Thanks to Gagan Pardhan -- the genial and hardworking proprietor of the Coffee House -- and to Ashmina Ranjit for making this event possible, and to the "ECCA ko gang" for showing up in such large numbers. oohi ashu ktm, nepal
