Plane nearly crashes as first-time flier opens door mid-air Beijing, July 5 A first-time flier almost crashed a jet when he tried to open an emergency exit to spit. The China Southern Airlines plane had been in the air for only a minute after taking off from the southern city of Shenzhen when an emergency exit warning light started to flash, The Sun reported, quoting Chinese newspapers. Flight attendants rushed to investigate and found a man trying to open the emergency door, the report added. "He had already opened the cover plate of the escape slide and was about to push the door open when a passenger stopped him and averted disaster by pulling him away." The unfazed passenger told a stewardess that he had tried to open the door because he wanted to spit. He was later arrested when the plane landed in Shanghai.
