Devdas is indeed "BRILLIANT." Too bad it is not a Nepali production. It will probably take Kollywood another 75 years to reach that level.
chandrasurya Posted on 15-Jul-02 09:57 AM

Even in 75 years we can't do it.

The indian cinema is watched by more than a billion and a half people all over the world including. This brings them huge revenue. And Devdas is reputed to be the most costly film costing 45 crore.

Nepali film on the other hand is watched by a smattering of people even within Nepal. A small market may exit among nepali origin people in Darjeling. However they also prefer indian cinema over nepali since they are proud to be indians and because of the quality.

A typical nepali cinema costs below Rs. 15 lakhs. Thus nepali cinema makers won't ever be able to make a high quality film matching the current world wide class.

Though it is not Nepali production, we can listen Ranjeet Gajmer with his madal magic. Ranjeet, you have proved it one more time.

"Welcome Back to Nepal, Ranjeet!" Teach some of our Music Composer to include Madal in their music especially to Mr. Banskota!"

Chandrasurya

Personally I find hindi movies long and an absolute waste of time.
Please let me inform you that people in Darjeeling watch hindi movies as much as or maybe more than people in Nepal but that has nothing to do with being proud of being an Indian. It has much more to do with the easy accessibility and the abundance of cheap entertainment!

Mr. ChandraSurya,

Yes you're absolutely right that Kollywood will not make film like Bollywood in another 75 years. I tell you what Bollywood films are not that great of quality either even after being in film industry for more than about 60 years. It'll take probably another 75 years for Bollywood to get near to Hollywood. You got it.

My point is nepali film was born just a decade ago. They are in steep learning curve. Every body is building from scratch. They are still struggling for the market even within our own country Nepal and win the Nepali audience's support. How do you think they'll ever grow? One of the good reason that our film maker have not been able to make good nepali film is because lack of our own Nepali's people support.

Every single Nepali either you're in Nepal or abroad have to have atleast some kind of patriotism in action to develop our Country and economy. Very few nepali people does that.

In fact I have met nepali people from Darjelling, Kalimpong, Bhutan, Sikkim, Burma and Thailand. They love more nepali literature, watch nepali films, listen nepali music than Nepali people from Nepal. Nepali people from Nepal likes western style music, film and critcise nepali stuff.

Please be supportive to nepali industries, do listen nepali music, do watch nepali movie, suggestions are good but not only negative criticism. Nepali movie maker and music industry have done lot progress than is past and I'm sure one day we can compete Bollywood may be even Hollywood in next ten to 15 years.

Buy Nepali products help Nepal's economy and nepali people in Nepal.

Chandrasurya, the amount is way higher than this. How do I know ? Well, I was associated with movies, on the production side ( limited role). Comparatively, Nepali movies might be lacking behind but I think we have come a long way in last 14-15 years in terms of quality, quantity and the market. Talking about Indian cinema – the industry has lost about $ 100 million last year. I am not saying that we are better than the Indians but we will get there hopefully in 74 years and not 75 :)))).
Bhenda Posted on 15-Jul-02 12:04 PM

What is Devdas about? I think most of the Indian movies are stupid. The movie will be about a story 200 yrs old and the gals will be wearing modern clothes and dance on modern music. For me most of the Indian movies are a waste of time. I like hindi songs though.

all hindi movies s u c ks big time, waste of three hours of our precious life.

DEVDAS is a "fantus" movie, I strongly suggest those who haven't watched to not waste their time.
