Your above point well taken if it is a gathering of only Nepalese. For example, we did not use any English on Sunday at the Bhanu Jayanti program. You may have noticed it if you were there.

I am not sure Pahari Ji ALWAYS addresses in Nepali but I think he tries his best to speak in Nepali where ever possible & appropriate and so do I.
I also believe that one should write more about Nepali language, literature and culture in English to promote them to the international community. For example, if I have time, i will write this news in English, translate Tika ji's poem and send it to various local news media (even to the Indian community here). Just a little contribution on my part to introduce Nepal/Nepali to mainstream America. I think, our overall convention has already been covered by Washington Post etc.
I am sure you agree with me on this -- if we have mixed audiences on our functions, use of both languages does not hurt if there is enough time to do so.
If I have spoken in English to a Nepali only gathering, it was not intended. My apology. I will correct myself next time.
In fact, we are about to start a program to teach Nepali language to kids and interested Americans in the DC area as well as encourge kids to speak Nepali at home. My wife, Kalpana Subedi tought Nepali language to kids at the Kids Camp during the convention.
I am totally with you about using Nepali language on Nepali gathrings. I need support from people like you to start promoting the Nepali language on this area and possibly make a model for other communities to use.
