My thanks to all who have shared their thoughts on the poetry.com issue. Just a few things: I) In my posting(s), I have NOT criticized Adwiti Subba either personally or professionally. I have NOT been accusing her of any crime either. I wish her well, and that's really that. It's just that after visiting the Web sites, I decided -- on my own -- NOT to be promoting dubious ventures like poetry.com in Nepal. This is important because had I gone ahead with my Kathmandu Post article, Adwiti's success at poetry.com would have been featured prominently. II) I saw no reason to first contact Adwiti privately since: a) ALL our 'conversations' have been taking place in PUBLIC space (i.e. this Web site), and the retraction was only a continuation of use of that public space. b) The links that talk about poetry.com are extensive and have been in PUBLIC domain well BEFORE Adwiti's arrival here. If I hadn't found them, someone else would have, sooner or later. III) All said and done, I think we serve our readers and Web site visitors MORE by speaking up the truth than than by muzzling it in any way. Sure, that truth might be unpleasant or hurtful or embarrassing at times, but facing it and learning from it is also a measure of our own emotional maturity. Great poetry, I am sure you all agree, is all about seeking the truth, howsoever defined. oohi ashu
