I saw Devdas. Its nothing to go crazy about. First of all, its very very melodrammatic, exxagerated, and slow. The plot is pretty much typical hindi, with slight variations. The first half is very very slow. Second is better b/c M Dixit comes in, however nothing to go pay 10 dollars to watch I guarantee that. The costumes are great, good dances, good music, great setting. That is all to it.

I agree, I saw it as well. It is pretty melodrammatic. Ive seen better Hindi movies, read Lagaan, Kabi Khusi Kabi Gaam, etc.The fashion is great though.

I think it was a masterpiece.

Hmmm, same person posing as different posters and saying different things?

The story sounds interesting. I'd never heard of it although so many films already seem to have been made on it since 1936! Also would definitely like to see how my Madhuri is doing post-marriage (that surgeon dude from LA is one lucky mammal).

Paschim ji,
maybe there are two people using that computer.

I knew it was going to be like that, all the Indian movies are so dramatic that I get embarresed watching it. Specailly Shah Rukh Khan. I watched Ashoka and found it so unreal.
Hindi movies are just a waste of time.
Paschim Posted on 18-Jul-02 06:16 AM

I once seriously asked my good friend from Bombay, "Achha, Mathur-sahab, give me a few names of really good Hindi movies". He thought for a while and said: A good Hindi movie doesn't exist. It's an oxymoron, just like you can't have a dry wet day. A good movie is never in Hindi and a Hindi movie can never be good. So you can't have a good Hindi movie.

Of course he was being harsh. I for one enjoy Hindi movies, especially the elaborate songs and the dances. How can you not like 160 people swinging their hips in yellow frocks and green trousers on top of a mountain in Switzerland, with a helicopter hovering above, and Udit Narayan shouting at the top of his voice, "I luvv you...han han...dekho yeh such hai, I luvv you...I really really luvva you"?

Anyway, among the last ones I saw, which was a year or so back, Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai, and Zubeidaa were good. And I'd surely go see Devdas if I get a chance. Last time I saw Madhuri was when she was dancing in *Alaska* with Mr. Kapoor in a nice blue Banarasi *saari*!

Hamesha tumko chaha.....! Posted on 18-Jul-02 11:18 AM

What a classic song....Hamesha tumko chaha....chaha chaha.....chahhaaaa....
Tumko puja puja....., puja kuch bhi nahi nahi nahi......kuch bhi nahi....!
This movie will be understood by those people only who are, were in true love. If you go and watch movie keep in mind that cost 13 millions then you would say custome, jewelry and lights are good but look at the story context, it is mind blowing. Recommended to watch this movie thinking about your old GF and instead of pop super duper size glass get the vodka then the movie will be based on your story. You will see your character on SKS, Madhu and Ash.
Paschim Posted on 18-Jul-02 10:45 PM

thanks suna, jira. That was true...madhuri in sari in alaska - i saw the movie in boston's bombay cinema!

my infatuation with madhuri goes back to her early appearance in this movie called "dil" some 12 years ago. enthralled, i wrote her a letter with address copied from the hindi cinemag, mayapuri. i told her: madhuri didi, you are soooo pretty. can i please marry you? and i undelined the word "please".

so, there you go, bhenda, you see, i am a romantic, but also a pathetic failure!!

Hey guys!
I saw Devdas too. I thought that Aishwarya Rai looked much better compared to Madhuri Dixit in the movie. She looks very young, slim and beautiful. Madhuri Dixit has gained a lot of weight and she also looks bit old in the movie. She does not look as charming as she used to look during her 'Dil' days and I felt that she was also not very flexible when she was dancing. But she does wear really good costumes and has done quite a good work. The setting of the movie is really good. It is worth watching.
