Digital intercourse is now the yoga of the Western world, cultivating and nourishing relationships, a virtual world of telepathic linkage. The computer and the mouse will be compared in the future to the plough when farming started. These improvements are a small reflection of a far greater picture not only joined by an electrical grid but because of the new understanding of numeric magic and sacred geometry. Now we can peer deeper into the pool of consciousness. It's time to download our consciousness while high wired to infinity.

cmon lady....you even know what you just said? .... and by the way a person is not smart if he/she is a talking dictionary!
Diva_Starz Posted on 20-Jul-02 08:04 PM

Yo !,

To be frank, what i understood is ..human's reliance on science is acceleratin' its further advancement. Its a proven fact.

I don't think we'll remain the same when the advancement reaches the pinnacle....
WE WON'T BE HUMAN ANYMORE....
If you think you're wise enough to think other then what I understood..enlighten us!

Peace yo!
asiantric Posted on 20-Jul-02 11:07 PM

It's more philosophical...............so wreck your brain for a change than just open your mouth and prove how stupid u r.
diva gotta a little idea, which is good rest of yo'll just have so much time to criticize others you know why coz u can't think for yourself.
cheers.
there's is more to life than meets the eyes.
Diva_Starz Posted on 21-Jul-02 09:33 AM

Asiantric,
...I agree with you..every aspects of scientific persuit offers a level of spiritual excitement.

Just imagine the scenario... if ever the human mind, by itself naturally evolves, or far more likely becomes bio- engineered through some advanced combination of the sciences of genetics or artificial intelligence, to the point where we can understand how somethin' can exist without havin' a beginnin' or no existence at all. I hope bein' philosophical still works then;)...

I still go for someone who said.. in science, the only sacred truth is, there are no sacred truths..

Peace yo!
! Posted on 21-Jul-02 01:26 PM

thanks for the stupidity comment....but you two seem to forget the point that the key word here is HUMAN or is it not? I have no desire to enlighten your superior intelligence diva or asiantric.... Its amusing that you realised that we are becoming slaves to the machine now in the year 2002? going back to the key word....if you dont think we wont be humans anymore.... lady either you seriously are stupid or ur enlightened sense of intelligence stops you from seeing that it is Humans who are creating these things and if you are saying that you dont wanna join the race then you are welcome to stand back.... but I bet you both have already reached a stage where you cant live without computers....so who are we kidding again?? Hypocrisy honey comes in many styles!!!
And by the way asiantric the first "digital" message. I still think it was blog blog blog and blah blah blah and BLAH!!
peace yo! (HAHAHAHAHA)
Diva_Starz Posted on 21-Jul-02 06:38 PM

Yo !,
...Won't say you much now, but would definitely say its no where mentioned that 2002 is a saturation point rather Asiantric has insisted to imagine today's advancement in digital world as a stage where digital farmin' started with computer & mouse pad much comparable to the farmin' in the field with a primitive plough...

So, your sarcasm of pointin' out that we remaining a human or a super human (robot?), joinin' human race or merely bein' a mere hypocritic watcher in this era isn't justifiable....

Peace yo!
! Posted on 21-Jul-02 09:41 PM

you Mizz are an apt reader but lack the skill of lil understanding here....never said 2002 was the saturation point hon....just asking you very politely that isn't it too late for your REALISATION? and that superhuman (robot?) sarcasm was the ultimate....did you see me mentioning that anywhere? my point was WE ARE HUMANS and the digital farming as you put it is also being done by US... no ones forcing!! Anyways whats the point? you aren't going to get my point anyhow I am just glad that you got the sarcasm part correct!

Diva_Starz Posted on 21-Jul-02 10:37 PM

Yo !,

...You proved you're worth limitin' your nick to an exclamation mark. You're simply givin' me jolts (definitely not implyin' for the way you're addressin' me...rather the way, you're puttin' forward your logics). Anyway..never mind.

But, just want you to let know...the credibility of anythin' scientific often arises from their ability to show relationships among phenomenon that previously seemed unrelated. So, if there's no imagination and a logic to support that imagination....no science at all.

peace yo!
! Posted on 22-Jul-02 09:00 AM

whatever honey.... I see no point what my name getting reduced to exclamation has got to do with anything.... and your last few sentences are again blah blah blah....have you ever tried re-reading what you write?

Diva_Starz Posted on 22-Jul-02 08:18 PM

Yo !,
.....If you can't understand the simplest thing...the simplest principal in science, you have no rights to analyse the pros n cons of the advancement of science (not my harsh idea ...rather being judgemental to the toils, the never endin' hardship and commitment, a chain of people have done/ doin' for its advancement so that we can reap the benefits )

"Science is the blend of logic and imagination"....I'm just tryin' to explain this simple principal (definitely not tryin' to offend you)

Fundamentally, every scientific disciple rely on evidence, the use of hypothesis etc .Although different imaginations and thoughts might have been used, but all scientific arguments must confirm to the principal of logical reasonin'.Orelse, it won't be scientific. I meant, its validity should be tested by demonstration, applyin' certain criterian of interference etc etc...

And inventin' hypothesis to imagine what if we create digital hell or heaven and then figurin' out how they can be put to the test of reality is I think, very creative just as designin' skyscrapers in paper;). But, who can predict what happens after
couple of decades....just let's be hopeful, the advancement goes towards the positive destiny:) and success is just the journey, not the destination for sure...Sometimes, the complex of stuff has originated unexpectedly, even by accident (let me give the simplest of the example...the apple that hit Sir Newton propounded him for the gravitional pull theory...So, it won't be the greatest of amusement in the future if we human, so much relyin' on digital gadgets , become digitalised ourself or create a digital heaven on earth...(imagination exceeds every boundary;). But I hope that future lies in the infinity;)

But, the bottom line is knowledge and creative insight are required to recognise the meanin' of the unexpected. There is no end point in science...what is end for one is the base for the another....so let's just be hopeful...participate if we can or else just enjoy the positive consequences of the advancement, make its best use if you can afford it...

Peace yo!

Science and technology is definitely changing our lifestyle and will continue to do so. This evolution of technology in our lives is not a domination of science rather a human evolution of science. Thousands of technological gadgets for non-essential every day use and the ability to genetically grow human body parts makes me wonder, where is this going to go? Even though the distinction between science and society is apparent, the science and society are indispensable.

Preconceived notion of fictional movies, where machine replaces mankind usually comes up during the discussion of this type. The physical law, which states matter, cannot be created, and it is constantly changing needs to be considered for this discussion. In the light of this theory the nature of human evolution along with scientific advancement is not going to make a difference unless the nature of the matter is altered.

The chip implant to alter certain animal behavior is possible today, how technological advancement will be able to alter human psychology in the same manner is yet to be seen. Can technology guide the feelings and fill us with knowledge? It might be possible? In a foreseeable future we might be able to go to a rejuvenation center (?) and ask for Terabyte of Gyan, Gigabyte of Buddhi and a Megabyte of Humor, actually that’s what I need :-).

ok this is getting boring now.... cant you see the whole point here Mizz Diva... the whole point here is to have fun and write the most idiotic or imaginative views so that you and the others who read it enjoy it.... if you have taken offense I am sorry its ur own problem.... ur whole idea of being scientifc and creative is good indeed but you will never get my point so forget it! YOU have made the whole thing boring now..... no mor writing in this thread until something good comes up if ever!

Hello,

I was just flippin' through the New Scientist , found this article "Designing animals as designer wears".......... postin' portion from its web version incase if it gets removed from there.

Genetically modifying mammals could soon be quick and cheap

A BIT of fly DNA might be about to turn the trickle of genetically modified animals into a flood. Biotech company Tosk of San Francisco says it can add genes to mammalian cells with unprecedented efficiency with the help of fruit fly DNA that can jump in and out of chromosomes.

The company's claims are being greeted with a mixture of enthusiasm and scepticism by other biologists, who warn its results have yet to be independently confirmed. "But if it works the way they claim, it's revolutionary," says Tom Rosenquist of Stony Brook University in New York.

Introducing genes into mammals is laborious and expensive at present, so the technique is only used for research and to create animals that yield high-value medical products. But if making GM mammals becomes cheap and easy, companies could soon be modifying everything from the farm animals that produce our food to our pets. Tosk's method could even be used to correct genetic faults in people.

At the moment, GM mammals are usually made by injecting naked DNA directly into an egg. But the success rate is extremely low: to get just one GM animal, a skilled technician has to carry out dozens of injections and then implant the resulting embryos. An alternative is to start with ordinary cells and then try to clone the few that integrate the extra DNA. But this isn't very efficient either.

Tosk's method cuts out this tedious manipulation, New Scientist has learned. The extra DNA is simply injected into an animal's bloodstream. Within a couple of weeks, it is integrated into a high proportion of cells in many different tissues, says Tosk's chief executive Patrick Fogarty. Since some sperm and egg cells are also altered, normal breeding can then produce animals in which every cell carries the extra DNA. When mice are modified by injecting DNA into their tails, Fogarty claims, 40 per cent of their offspring on average carry the extra DNA-an amazingly high proportion.

Tosk's secret is jumping genes, or transposons, which are found in many organisms. They are genetic parasites: bits of DNA with no function, merely the peculiar ability to spread themselves around by hopping in and out of DNA with the help of a "cut-and-paste" enzyme called a transposase. A typical transposon consists of a gene that codes for a transposase flanked by unique marker sequences. When the enzyme is produced, it homes in on the markers, snips out the entire transposon and pastes it elsewhere in the cell's genome.

One of the most active transposons is the P-element, found in fruit flies. For decades, scientists have used it to make transgenic flies by replacing the transposase gene with the genes they want to transfer. But nobody could get it to work well in mammals.

Now Fogarty, who left Stanford University to start Tosk, says that by tinkering with the structure of the P-element, his team can get it to integrate into up to 80 per cent of mouse and human cells in culture.....

Speculations, speculations and more vivid imaginations :)
Well, Mandi it is very interesting to read such an article but many of the articles published are just horrendous. It really does remind me of this nepali magazine "yuvamanch" where they had this section called "patyaunuhos/napatyaunuhos"(Believe it or not!). Well, the field is very very appealing to an avid OYS like me but the bottomline is we are far from such genetic breakthroughs, especially with humans..uff wish I could explain you this process evolved through molecular biology. For the very same reason, humans are not easy to clone as many claim they can..

damn i am rambling around..........I should be the first one to be stimulated right? ;)
I think the summer has my brain hacked like this thread.

hmmm...While scientists nationwide in US race to complete the Human Genome Project, mid-Atlantic researchers are engaged in a similar effort to unlock the DNA codes of marine life, starting with an Oyster Genome Project that could accelerate the move toward introducing genetically engineered fish and shellfish into local waters...

What do you say oyster;)?

Computer and internet have revolutionized the world. Ironically, tt has made us dull. No modem/wireless/ethernet is an excuse not to stay in touch. Ma bhanchhu letter tah chha .....

And while we get engulfed by A.I. (abhueee ) and tihnking thots of thinking robots, stop for a second and question ..... Was it really an apple that dropped on Newton's head. I am convinced it is mere propaganda by the apple-harvesters. I think it was orange. Why ..... cuz this sojo looking orange-harvester told me the truth over at the bar ......
Diva_Starz Posted on 08-Aug-02 07:17 PM

I agree with you junkie that computer and internet have revolutionized the world. It has succeeded in makin' us feel that the whole world is accessible in our finger tips. Paradoxically, this soothing mean of communication has also made us lazy and self centered (the simplest example is me myself, I don't feel like attending the classes because all my lecture notes are readily being posted on the web...leave alone writing pages long letters to friends). And, there are these issues like cyber terrorism, cyber division (in addition to the pre-existing difference between the 'information rich' and the 'information poor') etc etc.
Inspite of all these, thanks to the development in communication media (specifically, internet), today it takes no great stretch of the imagination to envisage the MOTHER PLANET EARTH as an interconnected globe hummin' with electronic transmission, a chatterin' planet nestled in the provident silence of space...

and btw Junkie, are you sure the *sojo* lookin' guy said it was orange not avocado...heard he works part time in the avocado orchard too (just tryin' to evoke humor..don't take it literally pls)

Peace
