To all DV Lottery Winners!
Dear DV 'Hariyo Patta' Winner,
Welcome to Amrika. If you are rich/or some kind of a yoga master then you don't have to worry but if you are not then please be aware that life in Amrika is not what we all see on TV back home. Yes, there are girls like the ones in Baywatch but it's only in Baywatch and nowhere else! If you are willing to work hard then America is for you. If you come from a well-off family then it's not for you unless you have a million dollars in the bank... then u can open a gas station, a car wash or whatever can be opened with a million bucks!
And for those, who don't have much ... you will make more if you learn some new tricks before u cum to Amrika! For example, Mistiri, Karpentary, Gaadi ko mechanic are great jobs in AMrika. They pay very well, like 15-20 bucks an hour. Yes, you have a MBA degree from PAtna and a Masters iN CS from some college but you should know by now the Amrikan economy is khattam and all the story about 'equality' is a big BS. So please prepare yourself for some discrimination. You can watch the vegetable sellers and the barbers in KTM to get a rough idea of how it works! But of course, it depends on u too! Don't take it personally if some AMrikan laughs at you. These people will laugh at anybody. They have been laughing ever since they had this great 'Tea' party many years ago.
Please do learn some Bijuli fitting, Painting, Kaath ko kaam, gaadi mar-mat and those kind of stuff before coming here. Don't expect to get a nice job, wearing a nice tie ra suit, and a nice office. Those jobs are mostly for White people and no, even though they may call you 'Gorey' back home... that doesn't mean you can pass for a white guy or a gal.
Since your green card will let you live and work in this great country for the rest of 'until' you feel like getting the hell out of here.... You can join some college later on and get some dough from the AMriki government but of course, you need to make some money on the side too...right? Therefore, why not work 20 hours a week... working as a plumber... making 20-40 bucks an hour rather than working 60 hours a week as (fill in the blanks!) for < than minimum wage. You get it...don't you?
Don't listen to your natay-daars and go to some big city and work 12 hours a day and make nothing but 250-350 a week. Instead, work light, make good money and enjoy life, go to school, enjoy life... but while you are there... don't forget to learn some skills from the guy who is fixing your bathroom, or installing a new batti ko taar or fixing your car! And tell them... that you really appreciate their hard work and want to learn from them... just to show your appreciation! Otherwise... they might start a new school and charge you some money... that too in $$$
And don't trust anyone. No, not even your father's sister's daughter's husband's uncle... Stay away from these people. ANd don't sign anything for anyone after you receive your 'Hariyo Patta'. No, don't be afraid. Not all, Nepalese are bad folks. There are many good ones too but it's like looking for Amriki corporation without any accounting issues!
And please don't call that 'Bhukka' tourist you met in Kathmandu. They are not in the position to help you out like you did for them. Don't waste your money, time and beautiful voice calling them and save your stamps by not mailing them the pashmina shawl or some handicraft u bought for these great 'Westerners'. Well, not all "Amriki' tourists are bad except for some Profs. who hang out in Kathmandu looking for 'street' boys. Now, that is bad but thanks to our 'ignorant' laws ... these people are not getting caned or hanged (although I do oppose the death penalty but u know!)!
If your friend is a former Peace Corps Volunteer then please ignore my warning. PCVs are good folks and they speak fluently Nepali, eat with their hands and love Nepal. So don't worry. You can send them gifts and ask for advice but don't make a fool of yourself by asking them for a place to stay or forcing them to take care of you. The best thing we can learn from these PCV folks ... that all young Nepalese folks here and back home should volunteer for a 2 year service to a remote village and learn something new about our culture like these 'Amrikans' who managed to live with and help the innocent, hardworking village folks without any microwave, indoor plumbing and hash browns! And to hear some of us (including me!) complain about destruction, pollution, corruption and frustration is nothing but a big joke! ANd BTW, I am one of those biggest complain-master!
But you have a green card so don't throw it away and head to a village for the next two years. See Amrika, Feel Amrika and of course you will like it... unless you have been used to ghoosh-khaing and silly 'Sarkari' tricks! The good thing about AMrika is ... you don't have to worry about your class, Khandaan and all that 'silly' honor thing. What is honor? asked a little girl. The grandfather didn't have an answer. He looked at the Master and the master said, "Well, it's chicken shit"
Congratulations. Come to Amrika ... like a kid, all excited and nervous to meet new folks ... u know that 'first day' in school feeling. Don't come to Amrika, thinking of Hollywood, Donald Trump or some Britney Spears or Oprah! Don't even think of getting married to Drew Barrymore [:)] or else you will be like me. Drinking Natural Ice, a nice 'Sasto' Churot and writing stupid stuff like this! But of course... you won't be like me bcoz I never win anything.
Well, they say 'you can't win the lottery, unless u buy a ticket!' and I think I know why I never get that Hariyo card. U can see how broke I am? I don't even have a 34 cents stamp! Well, now it's 37... thanks to Amriki Economy, now where the #$@! am I supposed to look for another 3 cents...?

Dear Paketmar,
Situation is pretty much the same in England as well. People who have vocational skills like plumbing, carpentry, construction, cabelling, general repair stuffs earn 5 times more an hour than any students are likely to earn doing manual jobs.
Hairdressing, selling fruits & vegetables can bring in more money than a £60,000 (minus 50% tax paying) people a year; as long as you've got the skill. & ya working in a restaurant is not a bad idea either. No need to pay for tax and social security contributions and get a rough £15,000 a year. Even a fresh London School of Economics graduate in CA don't earn more than £14,000 (minus 20% tax)leaving some exceptions.
The only difference between hariyo patta in amrika and in England is... people get right to remain in the UK for as long they want claiming a ''maobadi peedet manche'' NO NEED TO BUY A TICKET, NO NEED TO WAIT. WELCOME TO ENGLAND.
