It's the most fun when you're the only one from Nepal in your university. I'm glad that Im one of them. Any of you singly representing Nepal in your university? though the topic is bein twisted ere, Id like to know wat your experiences are bein te only one from Nepal.

My keyboard sometimes doesn't type "h".Sorry about tat.

U are right U N I. I heard Nepalese Gang Fight takes place every now and then in St. Cloud state university. Because it is one of the Cheapest Universities in the US, students passed out from community colleges tend to migrate there.

Your well wisher

Where there are more Nepalese there is always back biting and hostile environment.

It's good to live on your own without any Nepalese around. I have had very bad experience with Nepali friends around anyway.

Your well wisher.

Hi!

Yeah I am the only Nepali in my university. It really doesn't matter in the country I live in because other people are not really interested in knowing where I come from... that's why sometimes I wish there were more Nepali students in my university so I could make my origin known to other people. Its really nice sometimes seeing people from the same country socialising or just getting together. Although I have to admit that being the only Nepali, I have had to take the opportunity to know a lot of people from other countries and cultures and make friendship with them. Would be nice to hear opinions from other people as well.

whichever one has the lowest admission standards for foreign students.
whichever one is currently running ads in nepali dailies.
kancho Posted on 23-Jul-02 05:07 PM

Nachna najanne angan tedho! Blaming other nepalis for "hostile" environment is so lame. Maybe the problem is with Brit, not other nepalis. You always have a choice of going your own way in any college or university regardless of number of nepalis. And if you feel like socializing with nepalis, you always have friends (if you are friendly) around.

Being few or only nepali student in college may make one feel "special" or give a right to boast "one and only nepali" but beyond that, I don't see how it effects one's education or social life.

Brit:

Just because one has gone to cheap/community colleges has no bearing no his/her personality. How one conducts oneself is completely upto that person. And what affects that I leave it upto the anthropologist and intellectuals to debate. But I don't think community colleges are that bad ..... atleast in shaping one's personality
Brit Posted on 28-Jul-02 12:31 PM

No community colleges aren't that too bad; may be it is classified as bit lower status than liberal arts colleges or Universities coz of it's vocational nature?

Studying at community college then later joining sophomore class or, the final year university is a way of saving money as well (don't know whether it's the same system in North America??
