Post Report KATHMANDU, July 22 The claims that the leaders of the rebel outfit, the CPN-Maoist, were deep into corruption and misappropriation of the fund may be more than true. At least this is something which has been substantiated by the army on Monday. In the latest incident, the army has claimed that one Ravi Karki had spirited away nearly Rs.5.6 m and spent the same to meet personal needs. In fact, he made use of his wife Laxmi Maharjan by making her a channel to defraud the outfit of which he was a leading member. The Ministry of Defence disclosed this on Monday at the end of the investigation carried out by the army. Maharjan has been claimed to have shared just about half the amount with other leading leaders of the outfit. While she has nearly Rs. 1.9 million as deposits in different banks in the capital, she has also bought land in Balaju to build a house. She has been also claimed to have gone on a spending spree. Surprisingly, she has also bought shares worth Rs.10 thousand and admitted her son at a prestigious boarding school, the press release issued by the ministry said. The investigation carried out by the army team has revealed that the money had probably come from donations by sympathisers, bank robberies and extortion carried out by the members of the rebel outfit all along. Meanwhile, the army personnel have shot dead three rebels on Saturday in an encounter in Kuwakot ilaka of Syangja district. While the two rebels have been identified as "Jyoti" and "Sapana", the identity of the third has not been disclosed. In the continuing search operation, the security personnel have recovered arms and ammunition from the site of the incident. The army personnel have also recovered arms and ammunition from villages in Kailali district, the press release said.
