One thing I dont understand is why do people make their house in the river banks, they know rivers really swell in monsoon.

Hey Riva,
The monsoon rains werent that bad in about 3 decades! This is very unusual to have flooding like that in Kathmandu.Usually its just heavy rain. So for someo9ne who built thier house in the past 30 years this wasnt really a concern at all.
