I think Nepali language is itself really vast. There are so many different dialects from Arunanchal in East India to Dehradoon in the West. Even within Nepal, Nepali dialect differs tremendously. This difference is not just seen in specific geographic location but also with in social and ecomomic class. I have heard people say "Kasto pakhe justo boleko", "kasto damai kami ko bhasa jasto", etc. There are certain words that are common in high class Nepali families that are not known at all by the rest of the population. The "servants" uses different words when they are talking to their "Master" and vise versa. I am taking about things like " Hajur ko Jutta khuski syo". "Hajur ko Kukur le bhuja khai.se.na. Isn't that rediculous. What do everyone think about this? Should not all speak the same?

And yeah, what about people making fun of the Newari accents? anyhow, it's very common here in the US too, like you got southern accents, new york accents, then of course you got Hapsi accent or ebonics.

The variety in dialect is common in English too. American's don't have high regard for British pronounciation and the British think they are better. THen the indianized pronounciation is being recognized all over the world too.
The British are stiff lipped when it comes to their use of english words.
I was talking to an Indian friend of mine recently. He is a south Indian. He was complaining that north Indians have difficulty in words such as shree with "sh" not pronouncing correctly. He said "even some south Indians can't speak their own mother tougue properly." So you see............
And FOXY, about people making fun of the Newari accents. If a person can put somebody down then s/he will.

what is Hapsi, isn't that a bad term use for black people? You are complaining about people making fun of Newari accent and you yourself is making fun of other people. That is called "AFFAI BOKSHI AFAI JHAKRI"

I have lots of African American friends and I really can not stand people trying to look down upon them, I have lots of Newar friends too and nobody dares to make fun of them when I am around.

Frankly, I don't know where this thread is going. Ofcourse, there are dialects in almost every languages. As long as there is a variety in people using it, there will be a variety in the 'used.'
I also don't think any body will say, "Hajur ko kukur le bhuja khaisena." You would definately say, " Mausuf/Hajur le jyunar garibaksena." but , kukur le bhuja khaisena, C'mon don't exaggerate.

My intentions weren't putting them down by calling them "hapsi", i just thought thats' what nepalese called them, what should i say?, kalay, i've got AA friends too, but that has nothing to do with calling them "hapsi".

Why don't u apologize on your mistake calling Hopsi to AA people instead of keep arguing..
