I want to start a rather intellectual thread.

Should we accept the existence of God? Is there any such thing as a 'God' or not?
NK Posted on 26-Jul-02 02:28 PM

mmmbop,

It would have been more interesting to know your thoughts first. where do you stand on this old old old question?
JackAss Posted on 26-Jul-02 02:32 PM

I don't belive in God, I belive in reasons.
MmmBop Posted on 26-Jul-02 05:51 PM

NK, Right on the money. I thought about that after I submitted the header thread.

The idea is to state why a person believes that the God exists/ doesn't exist. Once he/she writes the reason to the existance, or lack thereof, of God, Other posts will come to oppose that thought in a thoughtful-scientific manner.

I believe in religion, I don't believe in GOD (u might have otherway round). I don't think God exists. Can you give me a reason why I should think, thy mighty.. the GOD, exists?
theistic existentialist Posted on 26-Jul-02 07:41 PM

i don't think mmmbop exists, but does that have any bearing on whether mmmbop exists? for the sake of argument, however, i'm willing to TAKE A LEAP OF FAITH and believe that mmmbop exists, albeit perhaps only here in sajhaland.

pigment key figment ho ...... figment hola ......

People are made to believe in religion ..... without it there would be chaos ......with humans ugliest behavior hurting all of us. But what do I know ..... that was merely a line from my room-mates diary .....

All I can say is that: Make sure you have fun at the 1974 concert ...... both religious and agnostic daju bhai tatha didi bainee rah mitra .........

IF YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE READING THE WHOLE THREAD, JUST READ THE BOTTOM PART:

Good point, Theistic. You raise the point of faith. Actually looking from that perspective, there is nothing 'real.' Reality and Existence is within the realm of faith and belief. We percieve a thing exists, because our faith (and instinct) tells us to believe us it is there.

Consider for a second, a baby is looking at a small ball. It has a faith that the ball exists there. Put a Box over the the ball, Due to undeveloped perception (Jean Piaget's theory), the baby now believes the ball, simply isn't there.

Who could've believed that there is an equal possibility of finding an electron at 2 places, at one single time (Quantum Physics). We now believe that.

Case in point, Theistic raised a very valid argument about just believing. But Theistic, you might have realized, the subject faith is very philosophical one. The purpose of this thread is to come up with Argument that you can back up with scientific reasonings , or other short or powerful reasonings.

Let me offer my perspective, to start: I don't believe in God. If its just 'Faith', that we should resort on believing God.. then why shouldn't we believe on thy?

Do post your arguments on WHY YOU THINK GOD EXISTS/ DOESN'T EXIST.

Questions like "If God doesn't exist, how did everything started? Big Bang? Then where did that atom or whatever created the big bang (SUN), came from?".
You have answers guys?
NK Posted on 29-Jul-02 12:33 PM

how can one be theist and existentialist at the same time? what is this? a tour de force of an oxymoronic philosophy?
oys_chilll Posted on 29-Jul-02 01:17 PM

yah something bout existence of anything...

You cannot disapprove a "negative"...Lemme give you an example(for those interested, others skip it, n zip it)..
"Many Christians have this belief that reindeers can fly. SO you want to see it for yourself..so u catch all the reindeers you can and bring them to the top of a cliff and push them off one by one..and see if they can fly or not.....well, MOST NATURALLY, they might not....well, so did u prove that reindeers can't fly..HELL NO.. all you proved was the reindeers you caught can't fly ..haha i hope u get the message" I think its the same with god..very touchy!!

Junkie bro, nice to see ya around..am hell bored..so have nothing to do but ramble around in the threads ...EDUCATED FOOL I AM !!!
Don't know much bout existence of god, but in lighter terms, I THINK GOD IS A FEMALE..
why???
'Cause Like her, god too is always right" :)
chill ppl!
oys..
PS> let the intellectual thread reign ;) and ya..don't let foxy and nepkt enter!! or u know the consequences ;)

HEY MMMBOP...

Just because something hasn't been answered and hasn't been explained..now does that mean you have to give it a supernatural connotation..
i DISAGREE!!! its just a matter of time.

psychodreamer Posted on 29-Jul-02 02:02 PM

we beleive that there is soemthing called god coz since we were bron we are brought up in that environment where people pray to god day and night...our mom would tell us stories about god and devils...those Mahabharat and Ramayan serials which we saw when we were kid and many other factors make us hard not to beleive in god...nomatter what we say there is some beleif about god and for god deeply rooted with us..

Oom Nama shivaya...

namita kiran,

per chance you can tour de france yourself into reading kierkegaard, who was a theistic existentialist.
