What inflicts more damage to a society, Adultery or economic corruption? Which one should get more attention when its comes to judge from the view point of a concerned civilian? BB KC, a minister in the government of KP Bhattari, was found indulged in sex with a lady – who later turned out to be his close acquaintance – got immediate attention. He was summoned to police station, banner news appeared in daily tabloids and party president of NC (then united!) gave him threatening to expel from party and demanded immediate removal from office. Everyone seemed well prepared to punish the culprit. Ironically, nothing happened. He is still a Minister and has himself expelled Koirala from party president (some believe so!). Although the impact was short and he got a clean chit in official procedures very soon, he got a nick name PARKHAL MANTRI! And now here comes Kapil Shreshta, a veteran human right activist and an expert in inter disciplinary politics is a ridiculed face today. He gets suspended from NHRC. Such a prompt action is not evident in case of someone involved in corruption. Most of the Ministers of Nepali Congress are well known corrupts but never ever the party president dared to ask for their clarification let alone the Police. UML asked clarification from its parliamentarians, ironically, from those pointed that one minister from UML was involved in corruption in China South West Airlines case. A person who let NCCN touch the bottom was awarded with RNAC. CIAA and Police sighted lack of evidence to justify any action against Mr. HP Pandey, a self declared corrupt. Corruption seems no crime in Nepal, but a daily affair! In no way, I am defending KC or Shrestha. The consequences, they faced, were indispensable. But my point here is, why no such prompt action/reaction against corruption appears? For sure, economic corruption inflicts more damage to the society than adultery. Who Cares?
