Sometimes amazon.com helps a lot. I just bought Royden's "Real Analysis" for one
third the price of brandnew one. The book is in good condition.

buy the textbook from your college bookstore, photocopy all the relevant chapters, it may take a while, then return it. A 100 dollar book will at max cost you around 10 dollars if you do so.

not to mention you can highlight and write as much as you want on it. Then punch holes and keep them in a binder, if youre organized this is definately the way to go!

Try Half.com or if you're lucky try the auction site of amazon.com. But never buy any new books from Amazon, they charge outrageously. Same goes for barnes too.

But the best way would be to buy used books from your college bookstore.
Lastly, if you have plenty of time, try ebay.
