Regards and best wishes Kadija George (Ms) SOME MILLENIUM STAGE EVENTS AT THE KENNEDY CENTER IN AUGUST Millenium stage events in August are a wonderful mix of jazz, techno, soul, blues and folk music, plus artists from around the world including, Ecuador, Venezuela, Madagascar, Scotland, Australia and Ghana. There is also a selection of the leading stars from the Sondheim Celebration, performing with their own bands and in cabaret. All Millenium Stage performances are from 6-7pm and are free. DATE TIME PERFORMANCE Thu August 1 6pm Sonic Circuits showcase the latest artistic uses of technology. From the commercial to the classical, arcane to mundane, for techies and neophytes alike, their music and video art promises something for everyone. Fri August 2 6pm Atlas Soul are a Boston-based 6-piece whose Afro-Mediterranean inspired music blends funk grooves with passionate vocals, polyrhythmic percussion breaks with trancy guitar and sax melodies. Sat August 3 6pm Original Dixieland Jazz Band recorded their first hit in 1917. Now, Jimmy LaRocca, son of the original bandleader, and a fine ensemble of New Orleans musicians, play jazz festivals around the world. Sun August 4 6pm Julio Almeida is an award-winning classical guitarist from Ecuador, who has played as a soloist and with ensembles around the world. Presented in cooperation with the Embassy of Ecuador. Mon August 5 6pm Annie Sidley Band perform soul-stirring ballads and adrenaline-soaked dance tracks. 'Delicious music... sophisticated compositions that show off what can only be called a gorgeous voice' Washington Times Tue August 6 6pm Writers' Night Singer/guitarist, Bob Hillman's work ranges from the gently political to the wildly romantic. And Randall Bramblett and his band play roots rock that features Southern songs of class and craft. Wed August 7 6pm Venezuelan pianist, Carlos César Rodríguez is recognized for his mastery of the European classical repertoire, as well as the music of his native continent. Thu August 8 6pm The Sea Chanters are the 19-voice chorus of the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC. Their repertoire includes traditional choral music, sea chanties and songs from the Broadway music book. Fri August 9 6pm The Moonlighters specialize in the west coast 'jump blues' and ensemble-based Chicago blues of the 50s, a style that is widely regarded as the cornerstone of American vernacular music. Sat August 10 6pm Homer Avila has performed with Twyla Tharp, Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane and Mark Morris. Challenging challenges, he presents work created in the year since losing his leg to cancer, including the premiere of a duet with Andrea Flores. Sun August 11 6pm Deluxe Vaudville Orchestra has been described as having 'one foot in the 30s and one foot on Mars'. Their eclectic blend of music - tangos, rancheras and American standards - is interspersed with specialty acts for all the family. Mon August 12 6pm Sondheim Celebration Judy Kuhn is appearing in Passion. Accompanied by piano, bass and drums, her set list ranges from Rogers & Hart and Kurt Weill to Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell. Tue August 13 6pm Sondheim Celebration Christy Baron is appearing in Company. Accompanied by piano, bass and drums, she performs jazz standards and new songs written with David Fink. Wed August 14 6pm Mark Dvorak is a folk singer's folk singer, who follows in the footsteps of Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly and Big Bill Broonzy. His warm and engaging style can make an old favorite sound new, and a new song sound familiar. Thu August 15 6pm The Kennedy Center/Department of State Jazz Ambassadors present a Louis Armstrong program, recently performed on a Far East tour to celebrate Satchmo's 100th birthday.
