In the order of my preference: Paritosh: Satisfaction! This name is quite handy as the boy later can use PRIT as his nick name to join SAJHA ! Puneet: Pure! Pallav: Young buds! Hajurko Sahayogi!

Several independent studies found that 99.9% of people say they would have chosen a different name than that given by their parents. OK, I produced the data. But wouldn't you agree ? Nepali parents have tendency to choose loaded, showy, flashy and pretentious names for their, for God's sake of absolutely unknown personality and tastes, babies. Just look around, how often do you find a personality with a matching name ? From royalty to magantey, mismatched names are everywhere. Where should I start ? OK, our royals. Let's take example of our king and his siblings. Birendra- he was never brave enough. Dhirendra- who had absolutely no patience. Gyanendra- Did not see a university, remains an undergraduate. Do I need to say more ? (Oh yes, Paramendra. Param Indra. How many Apsaras sorround him ?) On one shore we are so enthusiastic to name an unknown. On the other shore (see the thread 'Empower Dalit Women'), we have difficulty recognizing the known. Dalit women are the most oppressed of the oppressed. That's where help should reach first. That's what should be focussed first. If you are really upto reaching out, if you have been there, you would know what Ashu relentlessly reminds us is so true- don't talk big, do small, small things that you really want and can do. That's enough. Empower Dalit women. Yes, Dalit women. Not women, not men, not the country, not the world, not the solar system, not the universe or beyond the universe. OK, time to go back to the working bench..

I'm surprised that only one other person suggested PURAN. I think its a solid, masculine modern name.

Hey everyone, Thank you so much for all the suggestions, I actually had to print them out and recite them to me relatives. We finally decided on PAKRIKSHIT, but being in America, and havign "shit" is his name may create some problems in high school, like being made fun of, so we decided that the spelling be Pariksheet. I guess a good nick name would be Parik. Thank you all so much!!! The "sheet" part of the name is pronounced like the nepali alplabet "chya" , like chya tra gya.... Do you guys like it? Let me know.

Catmandogal, You are right. What I mean was PARIKCHIT, 'CHHYA' is from chhya, tra, gya of nepali script. Parikchit name is also connected with story of Mahabharat. 'Parikchit' is son of Abhimanyu, Grandson of Arjun. He(parkchit) is the last king of DWAPAR YUG and after his reign(death?) began kaliyug. 'pandav' le Indrako nimntrana(invitation)ma sworgako yatra suru garnu aghi Yudhisthir le sampurna rajya aafna nati 'parikchit lai sumpiyer sabai jana sanga bidawari bhaye. Today, I thought 'Prabhat Kiran' name could also be the nice name. Anyway, I am glad that my suggested name has been selected for your nephew. All of my best wishes to your nephew. oohi, pundit~manashalu(ananta):-)

Most Nepali names are hard to pronouce anyways! Its a nice name with a great meaning, and if he doesnt like it, he can always change it when he turns 18. Nick name would be Parik. Whats worng with that?
