Biswo,

I had never thought of visiting China until now. After reading your story, it made me pause. A little glimpse I was allowed I am sold to the idea (of my own) to go there someday. Maybe I will even manage to wave a little protest-flag in Tinamen Square. Do you think they will throw me in jail ? : )

PS thank you for giving my little poem your short story's company!

Dear Namitaji,

China isn'ta s bad as it is portrayed in the western media. I spent a semester in China with other American students as an undergraduate and believe me, that's one of the very few things I cherish of my college education.

And I don't think they will put you in jail for waiving a protest flag. Chinese Communists are changing their ways, so a little protest from you won't put you or them at any risk.. So feel free to do anything you want to but refrain from using drugs and PORNOGRAPHY! :-) (I wonder why they are so strict when it comes down to X Rated things?? any idea bishowji??)

And make sure you know how to use chopsticks (I had to starve for weeks before I finally learned how to eat with those sticks).

PS--Where's Reversing the journey.. I want to read it too. Please post the link/URL, if you can. Thank you.

Dear Namita and Trailokya:

Thanks for your appreciation. The story was actually a long one,
and I was afraid people won't have time to read it. It is not
a travel log,it is purely a fictional work, eventhough sometimes
it might have appeared like a travel report.

As long as you write your protest stuffs in English, you don't
have to worry about policemen. They are very tolerant of
foreigners. I am sure Trailokya is right that China is portraited
in western media undeservedly negatively.

>>(I wonder why they are so strict when it comes down to X Rated

Trailokyaji: The social and moral values in China are similar to
those of Nepal. Brothels/cocaine were two main reasons that
perverted Chinese people in the starting decades of this century
and also in the last century. May be they are learning from the
history!

Want to talk about your Shanghai experiences later. I know all
those guys you mentioned ,btw.I never went to bar with them,
because I didn't drink,&also because they were so much unlike me.
The impression they gave to you was very natural and expected!

I guess everybody is having the same problem.Or are people staging
collective 'boycott' of gbnc site because of its 'exceptionable'
content?

Hopefully,things will be normal soon.
