Recently, a citizen from Nepal lost his life in an accident in NH. Newspapers from Portsmouth, NH and Portland, ME cared to report but GBNC didn't bother to drop few words on it.
There was a time when I also used to live in Greater Boston area and used to participate in many GBNC activities. In one occasion,I remember how happy the above mentioned fallen Nepali friend was while enjoying a GBNC function.
I wonder, sometimes, whose GBNC is it anyway when it distances from a Nepali.

As a friend of the GBNC Council, I do not think that GBNC Council is filled with heartless Nepalis who do not "care" about the death of a fellow Nepali.

Sparsha's comments, though sincere,
perhaps puts GBNC Council members and their supporters in an awkward position of :

a) being somewhat defensive,
b) feeling vaguely guilty, and
c) wondering uneasily about the extent of their responsibilities to the community at
large.

Surely, there's a more positive way to address this issue?

That is why, instead of discussing what GBNC should do or should not do re: a Nepali's death, and given the increasing popularity of this Web site, what would have been more helpful is this.

Since Sparsha obviously knew the person,
s/he or someone close to the deceased should write a graceful obituary and post it right here on the Web site for the world to read.

That way, friends of the deceased such as
Sparsha get to publicly, using GBNC's resources, appreciate their late friend and keep alive that friend's memory.

Also, many others, who did not know the deceased, would then have an opportunity to read the obituary and share in the profound loss of a promising life tragically cut short.

So, instead of implying that GBNC "lay tetti pani ga.ray na" (easy complaints that we all do!!), Sparsha should think about writing an obituary and sharing it with others right here on this Web site.

Such an initiative first on Sparsha's part, to translate the word 'sparsha" in English,
would indeed be TOUCHING not only because
it would publicly honor Sparsha's late friend, but also would underscore the fact that the GBNC Council should be thought of
as a vehicle for all those who care about the Boston Nepali Community to take initiatives
themselves on matters of community benefits, participation and information.

At least someone cared to address my gloomy frustration. Truly, the idea of writing a "SAMABEDANA" is not a bad one but I am not concerned about that (writing one and post it on GBNC page. How I feel is how I feel and is beyond words. I am not backing off from my undefined responsibility.

When I heard the news about that tragedy that killed my friend, my first move was to open GBNC page for more information. May be I expected more that I should.

I am not trying to put any one or the institution on defensive mode. May be I don't write to GBNC but I have a feeling (I still do)for GBNC. [If I didn't then I wouldn't be writing]. I quite often come to GBNC page to associate myself with the community of which I once was a member but I wonder if I am associating with a heart or a stone.

Ashu, you and I have met few times in Boston many years ago. Now, I think at least you have not changed much. The reason I am saying this is because at least you cared to respond.

Thanks and keep writing. I enjoy Bhupendra Rawal.

I don't think you should be telling Sparsha what he should be doing. He was just stunned at the fact that GBNC who writes about every mundane thing cared less to mention the death of this fellow Nepali. I I think you should gather some info about this gentlemen so that you can write some euology. ANd why you...? You might say because you are very active of GBNC.

Sparsha, I wonder who you are. Thanks for
your words. I'm so sorry to learn about
your friend's death. But, time-permitting,
do think about publishing a biographical
sama.bedana of the deceased. That way,
all cold share in your grief.

Again, I appreciate your words of encouragement.

Hi Sparsh,
I have my "samabedana" for the death of a fellow Nepali.

It would have been better on Sparsha's part if he shared the information with other fellow Nepalese about the Death of a Nepali in NH.

I feel, GBNC relies on its active or passive members to gather informations. No members are designated to go hunt for the informations/news since they all are volunteering for the non-profit organization.
Sparing some of their time for other members of GBNC.

Not getting the information by GBNC is not being myopic! If nobody tells GBNC, GBNC is not going to know.

After all who is GBNC? Isn't it you, me and others?

You, me and rest have the right to correct your perception of "short sightedness of GBNC".

So Sparsh,
Come forward, relieve this short shightedness!
Please suggest effective mechanism of functioning for better GBNC and we have a chance to sympathize with the death of every Nepali in the region in the future without having to call GBNC a shortsighted organization.

Regards,
Mabi

Mabi,
let me just say this, there are people in Greater Boston Community (nepali, that is)who knew the fallen friend in NH well. At least couple of ex-presidents of GBNC knew him quite well and it's hard for me to swallow that GBNC (made up of active and passive members)did not know about the sad incident.

Anyway, thank you for the "samabedana".

I have read your response and of course there are more points to be addressed but I am writing this note from my work. So, I will get to those later. Once again, all I want is a cohesive community of Nepali like a painting- independently complementing each other rather than that avoidable mess of a fallen glass.
