Does anyone know why Swayambhu's eyes are like that? I mean like stoned. One of my American idiot friend asked me if pot is so available and free in Nepal, even the god get stoned. I had no answer for her. Can anyone answer her please.....I mean a good answer. Why is it a question mark on the Swayambhu's nose? God got confused when he was making the nose so he just drew a question mark???? Doesn't make sense for her. Anyway what do Americans know about Nepal right......

Two eyes of Swayambhu represents 'pragya'(knowledge and wisdom) and 'karuna'(kindness) Everyday, we sang in our student life that: 'Hatne hoina dati ladne nepaliko bani hunchha. ........... ........... Swayambhuko duita aankhale nyaya anyaya chhutyai herchha .................'

Kajal, Gods and godesses in Buddism are painted with 3 different kinds of eyes. The ones like that on Swoyambhu belong to Buddha (Shakyamuni). They represent peace and tranquility. These eyes are long and slender with a "dip" in the middle. The second kind is eyes that are not as long as the first kind, but still long and slender. However, these dont have the "dip" in the middle. Padmasambhava (a god who many Buddhist actually pray to in Nepal and Tibet instead of Shakyamuni Buddha) has eyes like this. They represent the same theme as that of Buddha, except that they also have the ability to be wrathful if needed. The third kind is eyes like those on Vairabs. These are large, round eyes. Almost fiery. These represent brut strength and wrath, which are directed at evil of course. B_D
