Hey friend! Prepare for DMV written test. You can prepare for this by reading DMV book which you can get at your local DMV office or at www.dmv.org once you clear the written test you can appear for behind the wheel test. Still confuse go to dmv site and chk it out.

I do not think a person with the B1/B2 visa can get a driver's license. The US law has changed since Sept 11, according to which you are not liable to get a driver license with the visa you have. However, you may find a remote place in the US (Ignorant people working in an environment devoid of computer and man power!) which will issue a driver license. An experienced person

Mr Experience. Pls don't give wrong suggestion. One of my friend is here on the B1 Visa .He got licence. It is absolutely legal to obtain Driver's licence in such case of visa even after 9/11. The only thing require is SSN #. If one doesn't have that then he can go to nearest social service administration and obtain a certifixate stating that he is not eligible to get a SSN and that's it he can appear for written test with this letter from SSN. But if he has SS , then no problem hecan appear immediately for written test.

If you ive in New Jersey area, you can use your Nepali license and just give a written test to obtain the license. You don't need to give the road test. That was the case before Sep 11, make sure to get an update from NJ DMV. It might apply to many other states also. Otherwise the process is as what other described, schedule for a written test from DMV. You can prepare for the test by getting the book free from your local DMV office. Then once you pass it, schedule for the road test, take some lessons and u're ready.

Why does NJ have a stupid law like that? Those fools should know that in a country like Nepal one can buy a driver's license, I am so glad that I dont live in NJ and I am not going to be hit by a car driven by some dumb Nepali guy with a fake Nepali drivers license.

guys, relax..! There have been serious changes in the identication requirements for a drivers license. PA, NJ and other densely populated states have severe requirements for identification. I recently obtained a drivers license from PA, and guess what they needed me to show.. 2001 tax return, pay stub/utility bills, ssn, green card. If a legal resident needs to show all these as forms of identification, one can imagine what an alien would need to identify themselves. Besides, some state don't issue drivers license to people who are not a resident of that state. I had a learners permit from NY too, and i found it easiest to get. So before assuming things, it would definiltey be a good idea to check with the state's dmv offices to see if you meet all the id requirements and the state allows you to have a drivers license when you plan to stay here for a relatively short period of time. Otherwise, obtaining a license from a state which have relaxed requirements may be your only choice. good luck.
