Dear mitras,,

HI,, nice to see some nepali doing with GIS.. well i am also nepali,, Basically i am Agriculture graduate from TU. my major is Land Resource Management (speciality Environmental Land Chemistry) I am about to finish MS (wel,, only thesis defense left) at Ghent university, belgium. But for my Doctorate,, i am doing in GIS, at the university of Florida.. Well,, i was supposed to start from AUgust 22 (deadline of admission crossed) but due to some family problem,, i managed to differ the admission and assistantship for January intake. Now i want to visit homeland and make some time with family. Still wondering of difficulties with this sub,, i worked with Idrisi in Belgium,, but at Florida i gotta with Arc Info (gotta work hard in the beginning)
Its so nice and cozy to see neps colleageus with this subject. Keep it up hai...

Sanjay,

Nice to know that you have already got admission and assistanceship in University of Florida. Will your degree be a Doctorate in Geographical Information Systems or are you using GIS in your studies? Using ArcInfo will not be a big deal when you take one or two courses on arcinfo. Have great time with your family back home.

Dear Parakhi mitra,,
My research is in landscape modelling and the work will use geostatistical methods, GIS and 3-D spatial modelling softwares for reconstruction and scientific visualization of soil-landscapes.Tho i prepared my research interest and sent to the profs,, i am really unaware of landscape modelling. To be honest,, I don know even a single model to describe a landscape,, but for sure its not like just jumping into water also,, my research interest happened to hit a major problem of central and northern florida
And going into detail what my degree would be like was out of question,, as i was replied till the last hour that the assistanship was very competitive and many students competiting for it. Gettign back to homeland would be a tuft deal at this time. I think my course could more specifically called Land Information Systems,, coz i find GIS a very broader duscipline
take care

Hey Sanjay,

Sounds great. Good luck on your new job and school. Congratulations on your scholarship. I think you are doing really good. YEah you are right, you'll hardly find any Nepalese in GIS field. I am glad that i chose this field. Alrighty, have fun in Nepal!!!
