I don't know whether it was done for fairness and for the country or just for personal reason but this is a right step by Ministry of Health.

Govt. have to punish and make them resign for those who run away from the country and hold the position in Nepal. If you choose to go to western countries for whatever reason you should not atleast hold the position in Nepal.

I hope our Nepali Govt. will continue this process and punish everybody in all Ministry and Corporation. That way you'll be fill the vacant position. Read this news from Nepalnews.com.

Govt takes action against medics ditching Kanti Hospital

KOL Report

KATHMANDU, Aug 15 - The Ministry of Health has finally taken action on Wednesday against doctors who deserted the Kanti Children’s Hospital here for their personal benefit, leaving behind hundreds of patients, unattended.

Tashi Dolma Thinley reports on today’s edition of The Kathmandu Post that the Ministry has revoked the practicing license of Dr. Ram Kumar Shrestha, who never returned from London where he had gone for training while it issued a special warning to Dr Krishna Prasad Devkota, who resigned citing none promotion from his present designation.

“We cannot go to London to catch him (Dr. Shrestha), as there are no such laws but we have cancelled his doctors’ license,” said Dr Benu Bahadur Karki, spokesperson at the Ministry of Health. This, he said, would now be applicable to all the doctors who leave their duties, ditching the government and patients.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has given a special notice to Dr. Devkota and has asked him to take back his resignation letter. Dr. Devkota was earlier quoted as saying that he had to resign, as he was not promoted even after 16 years of service.

The Ministry decided to take action against these doctors after they were found to have broken the contract with the Ministry, deserting the hospitals in need and consequently leaving thousands disheveled.

The Kanti Children’s Hospital is severely lacking surgeons for the last three months with just one surgeon serving hundreds of children. The lack of doctors has created a serious problem in the country’s only government hospital, which specializes in childcare.

Though there were four surgeons three months ago, Dr. Shrestha did not return from training in London while two others retired from service. And the only surgeon left behind also resigned after not getting promotion on time.

Realizing the need of the hospital, the management hired a consultant physician from the surgical department of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) two months ago to fill the vacuum. But the vacuum created by specialist doctors is yet to be filled.

With a lack of doctors creating problems in hospitals every other day, even the Ministry has realised the dearth of the problem. Spokesperson Dr. Karki informed that the matter has been pushed in the parliament for a change in government policies.

“None of the doctors want to go to remote areas where people are in dire need of doctors,” Dr. Karki said. “So for this we have to tie it up with attractive incentives and rewards.” (sjs/yo)

If the gov. doesn't give enough incentives for ppl to work then I don't think they should blame anybody but themselves. The management should have planed for the retirement of those guys and hired 2 more surgeons several months back to get them started on time to take the place of those retired doctors.

In this case management is the one to be blamed. If somebody wants to resign then its their choice. Unless there was some contract which he violated he cannot be held responsible.

Tropical you didn't get the point.

In this particular situation Dr. Ram Kumar Shrestha was sent to training in London who never return to Nepal. He should not have done that but if he did it I have no comment on that. However He should resign in Nepal immediately.

There hundreds of nepali officials they are enjoying western world job and life but they don't want to give up their position in Nepal. They keep holding it by taking advantage of buearocracy.

You said blame administration. Who is administration? Aren't they same people like us? Yes there are lots of loop holes and people are taking advantage of it. The people who are living in Nepal are desperate for money and position so they do take advantage of it. However I don't understand people who came abroad and already settled down in US, Australia, UK etc. Why these lobhi still want to hold their position saying Birami bida, Adhyan bida, Betalabi Bida etc. If they run out everything then they go their for a month little bit present to Hakims and go office couple months and renew everything. Why they have to do that? Why just not let it go that position so that somebody atleast can get it and use it.

Please let's look into ourself first before we blame anybody.
