I know that the following message has been copied and pasted, but I felt that the message is an encouragement to the general hardworking people and that it should not be missed.

Finally some Accountability........I applaud the CIAA for their recent move... I believe the general public would like to see the "BIGGER FISHES" too.. However, this is a start......

**KOL Report**

KATHMANDU, Aug 19 - The historic and heroic overnight raid carried out by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday against revenue officials on corruption charges has received diverse response from various quarters.

While most customs officials are critical over the CIAA step, civil societies have welcomed the move. Nevertheless, all argued that such raids and investigations should have been done in a top-down approach.

Separate press releases issued by various civil society organisations and business community have praised the latest efforts of the CIAA to weed out corruption. However, they pointed that such actions should first have been initiated against high level ministers and political leaders.

Their concerns are also on the unnecessary hassles that commoners might be subjected to. “The step taken by the CIAA reflects people’s voice. But the government should be careful that innocent people are not hurt,” said Shankerlal Agrawal, president of Morang Business Association.

On the other hand, most customs officials, with some exception, have termed the CIAA move as a prejudiced and a politically motivated one. “Corrupt officials need to be taken action against, but the term should not be made synonymous with all revenue officials,” said an official of the Bhairahawa customs.

Nevertheless, without refuting that corruption is rampant amongst customs officials, the anonymous official said that they are de-motivated by the latest sweep. He even added, “Officials from general administration, police, education, transportation, land offices and banks are more corrupt. They should be taken action against first.
