According to sources, they confiscated property worth of Rs. 6,000,000,000 from these corrupt officials. This property is limited only to 22 officials and of them only 2 are 1st class and the ranking goes down upto Kharidar. Moreover, this property is obviously excluding what CIAA could not find out and what they have already spent on them and their family lavishly. Only from 22 officials government can get Rs 6 billion (which is roughly 6% of our annual budget which is around 100 billion). Imagine if we could confiscate property from the most corrupt ones - the politicians, ministers, the very top bureaucrats, and police and army officials. I think we may be able to run our country for few years without getting a single penny from anywhere else. If we assume that these officials were bribed only Rs 6 Billion and they got the entire bribe money (their juniors and seniors did not get a single penny), we can realistically assume Nepal Govt lost revenue worth of at least Rs 24 billion. In other words, to save Rs 100 tax, businessmen may have paid them at the most Rs 25. Rememeber Prithvi Narayan Shah had said "GHUS DINYA RA LINYA DUBAI DESH KA SHATRU HUN". This is definitely a good sign for Nepal amidst all other chaos. But remember we were not less excited when Marichman's govt. arrested D B Lama and Bharat Gurung. Where is D B Lama now ? Some top notch leader in Nepali Congress. Bharat Gurung is no more in jail either. I recall Bhupi Sherchan "YO HALLAI HALLA KO DESH HO". Things like this happen and everybody gets excited. Afterwards, "hatti aayo hatti aayo fussa". I am not being pessimistic here. I think we should be very cautious this time. May CIAA (Akhtiyar) does not get influenced and thus corrupted by this government which still has few most corrupt ministers. I recall Pradip Nepal saying about Bijay Gachchdar. "The person who used to have cobbler attach his torn slippers (It seems he saw Bijay doing that in Itahari) is now capable of buying aeroplanes". Lastly, this raid has showed Nepalese people that earning money 'by any means' may not be good for the long run. Most of the people in our society respect and recognize rich ones - no matter how they earn money. Our society might change little bit by not thinking that way any more.

What needs to be considered: There are rules. No one follows it. So don't those 22. Suddenly, the rules are *implemented*. and some random 22 get trapped. The key words here are RANDOM and SUDDEN. Honestly, I see it UNFAIR to those 22 who have been caught. Caught for WHAT? If the govt thinks that they are being brought to justice, this is NOT the right way to bring justice. I am not supporting corruption, but listen to this: lets assume there are 2222 more corrupts. It's gonna take CIAA a while to hunt them down. Now that those 2222 are finally aware that the rules ARE being implemented, they have ample time to eliminate any/all the proofs of their corruption. These 2222 will never have to be a victims of rumal-le-chhopeko-picture-on-sajha people. They get to get away with whatever they have done. Not anyone (of us) supports corruption. But the big time concern here , if you believe in equal and fair law implementation, is the *fairness* of the law. Most of us are to think : Well, this is how it works, you hunt down 1-2, others will not dare. But, again, where was the law all these years?? Why should those 22 be an object of experimentation? Where is the law of fairness and equality? Try thinking from within those 22's current situation and heart's *rodan* before you accuse me of being supportive to those corrupts. Some things will never straighten out...

Bela ma buddhi na puryaye pachi ahile runu parcha. These 22 people had to be brought to justice. You can't expect to get away after eating people's money. Yes, now these 22 corrupt people are having to face the greatest shame because of their past deeds. It will be unfair if the CIAA stop now. All 2222 or whatever figure comes should be taken to task. We should prosecute even the retired one who are known to have been corrupt. Corrupt ppl should find no shelter. And let us not bring castecism in this issue. The fact that those individuals were corrupt has nothing to do with their caste. It would be like saying all madheshes are hawkers and all nepalese are gurkhas and all sherpas climb mount everest.

Is Nepal really bracing for a change? I am doubtful at this point. What CIAA did (maybe) shows that even the government is acknowledging the rampant corruption and has decided to act fast to solve it? Or this might just be as we say, a case of Hatti ko dekhau daat, instilling fear among those involved in corruption and hope among those people affected by it, not a long term operation, rather a temporary propagandous one. My take is unless you establish CIAA as a different constitutional body, people on top will always have a way to manipute it. Remember the way the CIAA is functioning right now (under the new act) could mean that anybody would be arrested for corruption. What if the big guns have a case against a commoner and tried to violate him using the CIAA? I know for a fact that many bureaucrats are corrupt and so are most politicians. You saw 22 people being arrested for corruption and will eventually be tried in a court of law. But who will catch the politicians? Unless I see that in the new future, I am as pessimistic as I was before this case took place.

One should NOT expect changes to happen overnight. Events such as these take time and careful undergoing. Obviously, corruption under LARGER SLIPS are still out there. At times like this one must LEND our SUPPORT to the CIAA and not discourage and or discredit them from doing their job. I am sure that the after-math, from all of this, will give civilians like us, the encouragement to BELEIVE in the system.

The fundamental flaw in the system is that people dont have accountability. Sure arrest corrupt bureaucrats but what if,there's the evidence that the PM was involved in corruption? Will the CIAA be allowed to act upon? I think CIAA should be independent of most of the politcal control. Look at the Federal Reserve/Supreme Court in the USA? The people are appointed by the politicians but the politicians cannot have total control over whom they appoint because these people stay on the job as long as they live unless they give up their duties volutarily. If CIAA were so efficient, the first person it would be arresting would be Lawati, a politician.

It is like hatti aayo hatti aayo fussa! First, they should have started with politicians and all the top beurocrats. They shuold have even seized the properties of all those people of panchayat kaal. Now those curropt leaders and politicians have ample oppertunity to hide their black money .They can do any thing .this government and akhtiyar is just showing that they r arresting the people with illegal money so that they can win the election.Otherwise why didn't they start with prime minister and his ministers and all those politicians?DOn't we know madhav nepal ,govinda raj josh, chiranjivi wagle, bam dev gautam and so many more so- called curropt leaders of yesteryears? They were so very poor just like common Neplease people of today. But where r they now? See their leaving standard. So,it's just haatti aayo haati............ I feel sorry for those 22 people.WHy r they singled out?Is it that they didn't have any one in power to protect them or is it that they didn't share the money they got?Why don't they catch people like lok man singh karki instead of giving him promotions? So ,let us see.But I don't think this action will move beyond these 22 people.Herdai jaau!
