PAHILO JUNI MA: PART I( k garne, post garna diye po) Dedication to the band and deep dai
*********************
I wake up with a strange blend of hunger, coldness and the fading memories.Rain is pouring down.Half asleep,I realize dai has pulled over.I give up the idea of reaching work at 8.“hya,dai ma ta sakdina aja”
“eh!Ma pani sakdina, sutaun yaar ekchin” he drifts off.I'm wondering“sangit le sachai pani paryo ki” Things have cooled off.I put the song that has been bellowing my mind.“Dherai dherai aaucha maun ma …pahilo juni ma”
***
As I approach the venue,I keep pondering over the same question“Oys, when did u last attend a concert?Have you ever been to a concert..Spotting sir, I shake off the latter thought. This is only the second time I have seen him in ten years. He embraces me like those days.“Oys, this is happy dd.She beams at me.I know her from a very different realm.“Namaste dd” “Oho!Timlai namaste ni garna aucha?”she gives me a light shove.I had a pre-apprehension that I might be left alone in the crowd.Meeting happy dd, dang bro, and seeing few other familiar faces, an air of comfort prevails.
***
The infectious blend of drums, guitars, flute and trumpet fills the air.The crowd is riveted at the sound of the most anticipated band.Music is begging;1974 obliges. The main stream with percussions of Nepali themes is titillating.I can feel the urge on my body to get it on.Everyone is waiting for the ice to break.Ovation breaks out as Deep Dai is introduced in the righteous term “LEGEND.”Sentiments run high in the crowd with his song “kati kamjor rahecha ..”I am sure crowd wanted more of him, but a legend doesn’t need to refurbish its legacy.
After the break, the soberly-stoned crowd can’t hold any longer.I find myself midst a familiar group that is making an epicenter out of everyone.I play my part as well, trying to dance “Kammar bhachi bhachi” (kyarnu, aroo jasto shake garna audaina)Suddenly, I miss few friends who would have a ball dancing like this.I feel for them as my eyes meet naïve,strange and vivid looks that paralyze me.When the band plays “nepali ” we go frenzy evoked with nationalism and irresistible beat.I find it hilarious when one of the band members starts the chorus in which we all join in taking us back to wild school socials “Chappa bhaire, chappa.”I can’t believe my ears, nor can I believe band members taking turns in mingling. I am sure happy didi enjoyed her part with the “murali wale” For everything beautiful; end is evident. so did this awesome display of art and music. There are many ways to assess a concert, but none better than the satisfying looks of the fans.
***
I feel privileged to be with Sanjay dai whom Sir is hosting.“Gojyangre haroo, kt sanga dance nagarera khali pagal tal ma ufrinchan” Sir recapitulates our dance. As night wears on,so does scorching heat.Sanjay-da, keeps us refreshed with accounts of US tour.I get a glimpse of a musician’s life. A realization vents out: 1974 A.D. is more than a rock and. Dai gives us account of band’s involvement offstage to reach out to the community. A quick recollection of the BNC concert with theme “bacha ra bachna deu” kills me with pleasure. My impression of a rock band is transforming: I realize that band extends way beyond music to deliver goods to the society. Not that their music don’t weigh as much, but actions speak more than words.I feel a warm appreciation for the band, but I hush dazed at the band’s On The Road stories.Suddenly the verse resonates further in my head “Sayad, timi nai hau ki…Pahilo Junima”
[Sayad, ma pani thiyen ki musician…pahilo junima] ;)
****
“San dai, photos ta atti ramro aayecha.” Yeah! I am giving my views to the site admin himself. “Thanx bhai! Ani k ho, aaja yo ghar baata IP addy track bhako bhai cha ni” Damn! Dude keeps up with his work. I am the sole culprit on the net. I begin to blush, I need another beer.
“Oys, dai haroo lai photos dekhaideu ta” Little did I know the entire crew was there as I sit there comfortably numb.I am shocked as each member approaches me to introduce himself(afu le po bhau khojya jasto)
“Aanch ! ramro ayecha hai bhai” they exclaim truly;another air of comfort stirs me.

PAHILO JUNI MA: part II
********************
Walden is a treat to everyone in that insurmountable heat. It’s a sheer delight to see the band and deep da mingling with the crowd. My heart pounds hard as I find myself in between Deep da and Adrian da, not knowing what to talk bout.We crack up seeing many join in “donkey” version of soccer game beside the pond, while others are busy taking a cool dip.The more time I spend with the band; the more I can relate to them as people like myself and not as musician that just rock the stage.
I stare in disbelief as time raced against me.The final musical odyssey gets on full swing hinged on two acoustic guitars.Sitting around transfixed not only to the music, but also in the quest of one’s solace.People request “dais”oblige playing with the same passion.“Dais” return the favor by appreciating the impeccable, mind boggling tunes played by guitar gods, that are somewhere in the same pedigree. I lay there as a useless bystander, confused whether to envy or appreciate what I am hearing.
Personally, I found unity, respect, support, patience deep seated in the band. Most importantly, they had the roots of a Nepali that flaunts out even when they hide it. Impicit yet very vivid. I took a heavenly ride once more when Adrian da played “pailo junima”. Perhaps, I will have to resort just to CD in future. As the crowd dispersed, I give my personal opinion bout the band to each of the members lauding their altruistic deeds beyond the stage. They are enthralled to hear bout their work that others least bother about.
As I bid goodbye to Sir and other dais for their hospitality, I feel mellow. It is hard to let go of something that you are attached to. Beyond the band and the music, in this special crowd, I had finally found a sense of belonging. As my mind raced back again on the final introspection of the musicians, my heart was filled with joy
Just two days ago, they were mere Deep Shrestha, and 1974 ad band. Now they had transformed to Deep dai, and other Dais, I could relate to. Deep dai is a legend!A legend is still a legend and the band 1974 ad is building its inevitable legacy.

CHILL OYS....
SORRY FOR TAKING SO MUCH SPACE ;)

I totally agree with you.
Deep uncle is one of the greatest nepali artist alive. He has a great voice and lot of knowledge about music and other music related stuff. He is not just a great artist but a grest person as well. Some people says he is STUCK UP becuase he does not talk that much but that's the way he is. He is not stuck but that's his habbit. He just likes to be quiet and not talk a lot. No matter what DEEP UNCLE IS THE BEST.

1974 AD rocks. They are not just a good band but a great musician and great human being as well. I have loved spending time with them at ANA at Washington DC and in Denver. Adrian daju has agreat voice and so does Phiroj Daju. They both have a very unusual voice but in a good way. 1974 AD's dajus (BROS) are very talented and everyone has their own style.
They are very friendly and nice. Their music is probably one of the grestest music in this generation. I don't know about you guys but that's how I feel. They have loved doing a tour in USA. I'm just so lucky to be someone who is close to them. What I like about their music is they are of course NEPALI ROCK songs but they have little nepali touch in it. I mean let me give you an example.

"Samjhi Baschu" has a great song. What makes is the best is the Manose daju playing flute befire the song. It songs so good.
"Nepali" has the great lyrics.
"Pahilo Junima" has a great music.
"Sambodhan" is probably one of the best song in their new album.
What can I say about "Timilie Piratile" that songs Rocks.

ALL I WANT TO SAY IS DEEP UNCLE AND 1974 AD US TOUR ROCKS !!!
Hope all of you enjoyed the show as much as I did.
Have fun and ROCK !!!

Oys,

Thank you verrrrrrrry much !!
I rocked with your words (re kya like Destiny did :p).

You sure had a ball of time enjoying the sonorous voice of the legendary singers and dancing “kammar bhachi bhachi” on their tunes. Hey, I missed that dance…would sure be a sheer pleasure to my eyes;). Did you need the soothing gel later?:):)

I enjoyed your narration. You have emerged as a prolific writer not to mention eloquent too. Keep it up comfu!

I haven’t heard much of Deep Shrestha’s songs except “kati kamjor rahecha” and “ timi aakash ko jun bhayeu”. These songs, together with late Narayan Gopal’s song “manche ko maya” used to be my folks favourite. So, I feel pretty attached to these songs. And, thanks to one of my friend I started listening 1974 AD and now I am totally smitten….:):)

Have a great day!!

hello oys_chill i found your long writing very intresting and every word that u have said about Deep Shrestha and AD is true. i had the opprotunity of meeting deep shrestha and all of AD members in dallas after the concert. they were all great guys. They all signed my t-shirt.

i have been listening to AD for some time now. Been a great fan of theirs even before their US tour. Love all their songs. pailo junima in particular. all their songs are great.i like different varity of music they play and songs they sing. "umbo janda" is a nice folk song with some great guitar work.Their new song "nepali" definatly made me feel good.

and rekha, i envy u for you got the opportunity see AD perform twice.

oye_chill, i hope u post the "more intresting details" that you left out. waiting to hear that. do post it soon.

More interesting details yaha sabbai ta kaha bhanna milcha ra ;) kura bujaun na bro ;)

one of the interesting and funny thing that happened after the concert...
while small kids rushed to the stage to get autographs from the band members, me and one friend were sitting there at the end of the stage podium
Suddenly one of the kids points out to us and says to his friends "u tyo dai haroo ta chutyo ni!!" they come at us beaming with pen and paper to get autographs...and we say " hami chai tech. support staff of the band" ..they extend their pen grinning..they did really believe.

haha fellas! don't worry, we didn't sign them..it wouldn't be morally right to mess around with a child's treasure which he is gonna cherish for the rest of his/her life, hoina ta? ;) nways it was funny the way they approached us!
;) la aaba left out kura ko chai kurai nagaram ;)

Hey guys. Thanks for the good reviews on 1974AD. That is what we need. These are very accomplished musicians. I organized a show in Cotati California at a place called the Tradewinds . That show was totally for american crowds and it is a local musicians hangout and a very renowned place where guys like Michael Barclay and host of other big names play. It was just awesome to see our guys from home rock the crowd. Frank Hayhurst of the Legendary band the Bronze Hog joined them on few songs and it was just breadthtaking. That was just amazing! It was uncanny to see all those musicians rocking to our guys. They have put some pictures on chakrapath.com from that show. Thanks again. I keep in touch with the band at all times. Jah Live!
