Ni Hao and Namaste!

Chinese PM Zhu Rongzi will be visiting Nepal as a part of his south asian tour.[Nepalnews.com]

Bishwoji, any idea what he will be discussing with our leaders? This is, if I am not mistaken, the first visit by any Chinese high level official after Ziang's visit in 1996-1997 (not quite sure about the date).

Sorry for belated reply. And hey, I write 'Biswo' not 'Bishwo':-)

A glaring signal of this visit, as I know, is Zhu is not going to
India also. When relationship between India and China thawed in
80's and 90's,Chinese leaders who came to Nepal came here after
or before visiting India.Jiang also went to India last time. In
fact, I was surprised that the speaker of People's Congress Li
Peng and one Politburo member of CCP , Wei Jianxing, visited only
India in their last tour.Eventhough I think Rajeshwor ji is a good
ambassador, I had plenty of reasons to suspect his ability. This
time he has done a good job. With personal and warm relation with
Chinese leaders, we can gain a lot.

When Zhu ascended to premiership, I was in China. I had noticed
that everybody was very happy for that.He is still extremely
popular there.Given the recent layoff of Chinese labor force from
SOE(state owned enterprises) and incipient unrest among the lower
class people, such popularity is very surprising.(Contrast Zhu and
Girija. We elected Girija, but he is as unpopular as a leader of
autocratic regime.Zhu is a leader of autocratic regime, but he is
as popular as a democratically elected leader!)

Now, let's talk about our relation. Foremost of our concerns
should be that of trade deficit. Although trade deficit in itself
shouldn't concern us much, it can be powerful tool for us to
urge them to facilitate our export to China.Currently, we sell
noodles,vegetable ghee,and soaps to China(Esp Tibet).Such cheap
and low tech sale may never make us fully capable of profitting
from huge Chinese market. Our foremost concern should be
electricity sale to China. It is time we should start preliminary
talks regarding future electricity business. If Chinese companies
want to invest in Nepal in hydroelectric sector, we should prepare
better environment for them.)Another lucrative field for us is
in tourism. It sounds so crazy to talk about tourism now, because
of all these terrorist thing. But, Chinese are very eager to
invite the trekkers of our Himalaya to Tibet. They want to make
a trekking route that would take tourists to the other end of
Himalaya also. Some of us may think, why should we give our
tourists to them? But, hey, there will be equally more Chinese
tourists who will love to come to trekking in Himalaya. We
can profit enormously from that venture. We should also make it
sure that no fugitive is given a hideout in China, no arm sale
is conducted from China. You probably know that, midwestern
China also produces counterfeit Kalashnikov Rifles(AK47 and
others) which are smuggled to Pakistan and Afganistan for sale.
There is no evidence that our rebels have used Kalashnikov rifles,
we need to make sure that such condition never arise.

Zhu will make sure that we will vote against impending proposal
of decrying China for her alleged human right violation in UN
Human Right Comittee in Vienna (We never vote against China
anywhere!), we support Beijing's Olympic bid for 2008, we
guarantee that Tibetans won't use our land(Thanks , Tibetans are
not like Kashmiris) and we reiterate that Taiwan belongs to
China. In the light of increasingly uneasy Sino-US relation, and
increasingly cozy US-Indian relationship, China is likely to
appreciate our friendship more this time.
