Paramendra: Param Indra/ Paraminderr. It's interesting that so many people come to sajha.com all wound up in the beginning. Slowly the gases escape from the baloon. Let's hope our param inspired mitra doesn't get unwound too soon. Would love to see different poses with different clothes. He might fit well in my next Jame Bonds flick.
Puru: Highly strung like the great Narad. He comes with his serious postings. Let's loosen up the decimal places in your belt shall we? I mean Literature is NOT everything!
HahooGuru: Ok this one doesn't really need any comments but he would be disappointed not to see his gaijatre water to water analysis from Jame Bonds. Well hahooguru you got FEW good things to say. Note that I say FEW. You do have few smart ideas. But on the whole, most of them are too soporific. Is your ambition to create a Hahooguru cartoon super hero series featuring hahoo-man? Very entertaining tho. I heard that peoples postings are proportional to their jai bhudies. Guruji, you've been working out recently?
Jira: Jira is a fitting name for jira. Most of his ideas and postings are minute like Jira. His ideas might be jire khursani sometimes though.

I know, I know it is a Gaijatre fun. But I am terribly hurt. So (one of) my fellow sajhaite (s)thinks I don't read her/his poem? That I think I am too good to read others' poems? How does one come to that conclusion? Because I did not post any *comment*?? I may not comment, but I do read when I am around!!
(I will post about this in a different thread. I don't want to ruin this thread with my defense. Maybe I should go look for some hemolock.)

Hmm, overwhelming interest. Did you notice that everyone loves a little humor in their busy life?
This thread has proven one thing that Foxy, Parmendra, Ashu, James Bond, Paschim, Sitara, NK, HahooGuru and almost all of 'famous sajhaits' with so much diversified interst can talk/comment in one common topic?
It shows that we do love our tradition....and we have come long way to 'respect' each other in the cyber space......it is just like our young Nepalese democracy, slowly it is spreading it's roots....

If someone makes negative personal comments about me the person (..."he is dumb"..."he is self-centered"..) that is a personal attack, and I don't intend to get agitated about it. But if someone heaps ethnicist slurs (.."madisey"..."dhoti"..."marsya"...) then that is a political issue, and this web community has to take a stand. There have to be postings by at least a few besides me, especially those from the hills background, saying they intend to denounce it. That is all.
You write at a time when I have been having some productive discussions on the Sadbhavana with some participants who largely disagree with me. And, overall, I have been glad I have been active at Kurakani.
Thanks for taking a stand.

As I had posted in an earlier discussion, people have their prejudices inherent in their nature which maybe almost impossible to remove. Its for them to realize what is fundametally wrong and hopefully they will. I dont think you need to feel any harrassed by his/her bigot remarks (not that you have, I commend you for getting this issue on for discourse).
More than often, you can see topics contending hatred towards every ethnicities in the society, be it a pahadi, madheshi, indian , pakistani and so forth. No one is above criticism but no one has to be criticized for the wrong reasons either. It's one's own personal resposibility to realize that and like spectators, we can only watch what's going on. The problem at hand is not new, there has been times when fellow sajaites were contemplating extreme measures such as to actively banning such thought provoking remarks/topics. However, it maynot be a long term solution(aside from infringing one's freedom of speech), rather a problem as such that people may stop to come here at all. I've seen that happen to many online usergroups. Take soc.culture.nepal for example. Back you'd actually get to participate in something that was intellectual or fruitful. Now, it's just there to preach hatred mosly against muslims and other groups.
Most of those who come to this site, are here for a rational purpose of their own. My own is to discuss issues and hopefully, expand my horizon.What you guys write are helpful too, sometimes it helps with facts, sometimes I get to hear you side of view and I sometimes I've to bicker on those views that I may not agree with you. Lets just try to keep it clean because what measures can we take to eliminate those feelings? Ban them! No. There are many loopholes to comeback and incite an anthropic hatred again. Those feelings aren't made up because if the person writes such, he/she should feel such. I guess he/she should see the world, the problems that are prevalent maybe due to feeling as their own and its not helping anybody more than hurting himself in a longer term. A verse in dhammapada(dharmapath) reads:
'By the constant fall of waterdrops, a pitcher is filled: likewise the unwise person, accumulating evil little by little, become full of evil.' I don't consider myself to be a righteous freak but sometimes situation compels to talk about humanistic morality.
PS: Sajha needs to upgrade its bandwidth. I have been experiencing bottleneck speed throughout the week.

Parmendra, HahooGuru and Prasna Chinha put it very eloquently and as usual NK 'didi' put it very sternly that most of the serious contributors in this site don't promote ethnic slurs etc.
Having said that let me tell you my experience when I used to be as young and even younger as you and my blood used to boil also when Kathmanduites used to call me names - my answer that time used to be:
'Well, you can call me Pahadi or Madhise that is fine with me because a person living in Pahad is Pahadi and Madhes is Madhise, as long you let me call you Bhaguta for you live in a dark well of Kathmandu valley and never seen even how big is Nepal'. That used to shut them off.
But, now with much of wisdom and gray hair I just smile and think to myself 'Exposure ko kami ho'.
Parmendra when you walk in a Terai/Pahad village how many Bhusya kukur will bark at you do you go and kill all of them? That will be waste of your time. After some time they get tired and keep quite. I understand that rarely when a vicious dog is behind you most of the time good samaritan villagers will su the dogs out, and may be for those extreme cases one needs to be prepared. Is not that exactly happening in this Sajha?
So, please don't waste your energy on these petty things and do the job what you are doing best and you already have a name for yourself here.
We all love you and your posting my dear (this is how NK would put. Hmmm! I think I copy NK more than I need to).....we may not agree with all you have to say :-)
In my opinion Sajha represents 'Young Nepali Democracy' in action, you can see how nicely it is maturing!!!!!!!!

I apologize that I did not speak before about the ethnic slurs being hurled at you. I think I became complacent since for a minute it was not someone slurring women and being misogynistic. What Bitchpatroll is doing is inexcusable. The name itself says it all. I agree it is important to take a stand and say what is and is not acceptable. Racial and ethnic slurs, like misogynistic slurs, are not acceptable. It is about community standards and taking a stand! I don't know how many times I have said that. I have wondered a lot about the so called “community”.
We Nepalis love to say.. kag karaudai garcha pina sukdai garcha. Yes, Goo choye ganaucha. I realize that. But sometimes if you want to stick around in the same room for a while, someone has to say there is a turd in the room, and then pick it up and flush it down the toilet!
Ignoring a problem does not mean it goes away. It simply disappears for a while to come back again. And with each rising, slurs gain currency as people become desensitized to the initial shock value and it becomes more accepted if not acceptable.
However, I also believe that it is very important to differentiate between bigotry and hatred versus say differences in opinions and personality friction. And this seems to be the case between Czar and you. I think it is a fallacy to bunch Bitchpotrol and Czar together! (It is too bad Czar high fived the creep. I will not try to explain someone elses motives than I already have in my "cyber-fan mode".) Sometimes it IS hard to discern what is plainly “racist/misogynist” and simply “personal”. But there IS a difference and I think if you want to speak out against the bigots, you want to make sure you are cognizant of the difference between the two. I think you already addressed that in your comment to Hahoo Guru.
A while back I left this board because some folks decided they wanted to teach me a lesson for being uber feminist, I guess. And the way they chose to do that was by trying to publicly humiliating me by directing the most obscene and heinous words at me. I was mortified and humiliated. Of course. But more so I was upset that the “community” was so hands off about it. I remember someone else actually wrote something like “hey this is getting personal." Personal! What?! Would that person who directed all the vile stuff done and said the same if I were of a different gender? No!
The fact that a person belonging to a marginalized class – say a woman, or a low lander in your case – is articulate and opinionated, and not a wallflower who is going to stay within the laxman rekha designated to tell us our limits, is very threatening for many folks. And their ultimate resort is lashing out ignorance, hatred and meanness disguised as justifiable action for being “uppity.” Most folks sit back, like I did, because it was not directed at me or my “group” – be it female or some other “minority” group. But you are right, if we don’t do anything, our silence legitimized the folks like Bitchpatroll and the hatred they spread.
After months I came back to Sajha because I enjoy the community (and am a masochist!). I am thankful everyday that most people are not evil and malicious. We are still a very sexist and racist society though - but that is no excuse for misbehaving and hate-mongering. I sat on my butt this time also because it was not “my group” this time. I apologize again.

You must have not been reading some of the recent posts... Gaijatra ended a few days ago in real life and I think it has come to a grinding halt right here on this thread as well. I know you started this thread! And it was funny. It still is to some degree. But I am getting a little sick of the Hindi being thrown around - and the same jokes about women... always women in reference to men - au love garau, get them married off, paired off to this person and that! Ke ho? Do women not exist without reference to men? Khai ke ho yo? huh? it's getting on my nerves. I like Ashu hai, we know each other well enough I'd say, but what is this nonsense?

With all due respect to your respectable personality and long string of "evidences" and grieviences, (against you) painstakingly collected from all the threads, if you come out in the cyber limelight as a cyber public figure.....expect some lampooning too. Your "public image" is not yours, it is made by the responses of the public. If, you can gracefully accept the compliments you receive in your postings, be realistic enough to expect "criticisms", in any form. Far be it for me to "educate" you in the ways of the cyber world but guess what it is the way of the "real" world. Many of us get slandered and cursed at but you don't see us crying "Foul Play" at every tom, dick or harry ( jane, mary and sally....?) who pushes our buttons!!
Here is a reality check...just because your threads carry respectable intentions...you will not be hailed as a "freedom fighter" or "hero" by everyone. Don't forget we are in a cyber society where we don't even know eachother's name and identity. Hence, the reasons for speaking attrocities.... sometimes, your "realistic" expectations may not be applicable in an unrealistic/ world dimension?
Here is something my Sociology professor used to say...."If you open your mouth, expect to be guillotined....just don't take it personally!"

(5) Those that will engage in construcitve, intelligent dialogue, to disagree, to agree, to find middle ground, to challenge, to be challenged, to find new ground, to learn, to teach. To engage in a positive way.

This is in response to your pea to stop this thread. Just because gaijatra is over, we don't have to stop the gaijatra in the cyber world. There is a humor section too but I think we Nepalese feel more at ease in a Gai Jatra thread to poke fun at things and people that can be made fun of. I don't think people should take this thread too seriously.
As a quote from the about us page of this site, it is supposed to be a place "where we take a little break from the monotony once in a while to indulge in gupp-supp to tickle our intellect, to talk about Nepal and the Nepalese, and to remind the fact that we are Nepalese no matter where we are and what we do".

Not true!!! I did find your name funny...and if you notice I did say something to that effect, not to slander you. If the people in this thread have not referred to you, it is because you do have a very colorful vocabulary and a highly volatile cyber persona. Most people who have responded to this thread do not look for confrontation, nor do they want to retaliate in kind.
You have also made a few valid point about "free" speech not necessarily "appropriate" speech. I totally agree with you right there. I don't think that you are even "aspiring" to be or go anywhere in this "cyber community". You are looking for reactions and you got them. Believe it or not I do understand you (not necessarily condone you). But there is something to be said about the reactive nature of "others" with AS colorful vocabulary versus the language of those on "this" thread. Maintaining a semblence of respectability is hard enough whithout knowing one another's identity. Again you are right, it is about cyber personalities...not necessarily the original persons. If you have maintained an "abrasive" personality to get to someone, I think your purpose has been achieved. but in the process....you might have offended other bystanders who are here for a different purpose. That’s the issue Sitara was addressing. The right to free speech.
We may each of us find objectionable, at one time or another, what the other has to say. How we express our disagreements is another issue entirely. Racial slurs, bigotry and the like have no place in civilized society.
By arguing for free speech, as Sitara did, does NOT mean support for vile and virulent words. Lets not forget though, that it does exist and is part of the human condition. The net is not exempt from it. To think otherwise is to be unrealistic.
We can all disagree, without being disagreeable. That’s why I examined my conscience these past two days. I urge that all of us step back a moment and pause for reflection.

I did not "deliberately misinterpret" you and do not seek to do so or to hyperventilate when I express my opinion [did you think I was hyperventilating? I am afraid the next thing I know, I will have been diagnosed hysterical :)] But seriously, I did feel that your post to Bitchpatroll was too appeasing and mollifying… You are right it is hard to straddle the fence and I stand on the side that says condemn and not just "not condone".
I am a proponent of free speech and truly believe censoring people is bad for everyone. Yet, I also believe that individuals have to be responsible for what they say and do - cyber forum or not. And as a "community" we have to guide individuals to choose that path.. I like to live among people who respect themselves and others and treat others with the same kindness and understanding they want.
But obviously I myself am not that "understanding" of people like Bitchpatroll. I don't care where they are coming from. In my opinion, the light touch just does not work with some people. I have no patience for those who espouse hatred and bigotry. You are obviously lot more gracious about dealing with freaks like Bitchpatroll than I am. In my zeal to fight the "good fight, I misdirected my enthusiasm at you.
Freedom of speech is great, but it is bigots and racist and sexist people who ensure that others don't have the same right. I am not trying to make excuses here. Please accept my apologies for being so over zealous and misdirecting my energies at you.

oye desh bhakta bhattarai dai .. kaha gaijatra over bhayo bhaneko.. this life is gai jatra k.. since you get offended by someonez posting doesn't mean gai jatra is over ni.. if ppl want to post then they have the right to do so. aneeways since the no. is already 197 and countin. why not take it to the 200 mark.. 2 century ta huncha.. 2 century score le we can even beat india and pakistan in a one day international.

Guess ma name does not appeal to yo femnist nature I understand. Let me clarify a few things ... I did not know Mr Parminderr was from south or tharu or maitheli or whateverrr for that matter. I was just merely poking fun at his picture posting on every article. It was just a shot in the dark ... echoing coments that others had made. But he kept coming back. I have an ego too just like Mr Parminder and thats how this whole episode started. And when you lose controll...you let it out.. no holes barred... Fire with fire= burn

and you keep on writing. But, you fan like me keep on noting down

I am being guy who went worst among worst public schools where
my teachers taught english KNOW ===> KONO, Knife===> KANIFE
.... construction ===> kontucson... I remember my father forced
the head master to move our english teacher to social science ....
subjects when I was reading the spelling K N O W === > K O NO
mane jannu K N I F E ==> kanaife , kanaife mane chakku ...
.... jun jogi aye pani kanai chireka, ......
A friend of mine in Grade
10, came to me to copy geometrical constructions, I was not at
my home. He asked with him where is G, ... after sometime,
I was back and he told almost this line "timile contucson ko home
work garyou bhane leu na, katti try garda pani ayena. Sake dekhi
sikaideu ...". Then, my father asked us, "tyo kontucson bhaneko
ke ho? " Well, I replied him its CONSTRUCTION. Then, our high
school 's english teacher was in trouble next day.
Timra student le construction lai kontukson bhanchan, k padhauchau .....
the english teacher was angry with me and ... my cousine was also
my class mate. Next day morning, (it was winter, we were on
ground for warm sun heat).... when we rushed to class room
.... the teacher filtered out we both me and my cousine.....
and did not let us go inside. Charged that you are behind me,
(while other friends were allowed ...) then, he twisted
"nimthyo" our kaan, so much that Kaan ko loti nai chyattiyachha.
....pachadi ... ajhai pani kahile kahi dukh dincha tyo ramro sanga
najodiyeko le ... Plus few more slaps on our faces "GALAMA" ....
Then, I started seating on back chair. ... Well,
next day, my father again went to school to complain, the
english teacher was on birami bida "he knew the possible
complain: because we had high fever ....reason was obvious".
Thus, the teacher was in leave for week. .... I lost interest
on his subject .... Wow, my only aim was to pass the SLC exam.
I don't know why I always, from primary school to college, had
HITLER quality english teachers ... In college too, as usual, the
students were joking on each other "GOO Morning", then,
suddenly our english teacher, radio nepal 8:30pm english
news caster Hari Prasad Sharma passed in front of us ..
and he heard GOO..Morning too. Well, it was not meant to
him. I was not saying anything like GOO ... Morning. ..
but, a friend of mine with whom I used to seat on back seat
(for side talk, when the teacer was of jhur and we had
to yawn all the time) and was leading that GM stuffs.
For us, it was usual, because we were in the campus for
almost a year or so (because of too many strikes), our class
was just infront of staircase on ground floor, everyone
used to pass ... the fun was regular .... .. .. WE used to
join him .... just ahahahah.... towards anyone .... that was
the public campus life in Nepal.... Well, that particular day
HP Sharma caught us. He silently went to his office that
was just 10m away from our class room. In another 5 minutes
, we noticed him coming and were silent since he was teacher ...
Well, in fact, he came to take revenge on us. He approached to
us, especially, three guys that friend who spelled the word,
me and the other friend ... said "GOOD MORNING to YOU"
"GOOD MORNING to YOU".. to each of us (why he said to me ?) ...
Aba bhayena farsad. We were surprised .... just did not know
what went wrong with him, we thought we were letting all
teachers silently pass the passage whenever we noticed them.
Someone in that bunch of dozen student told (after HPS returned
to his room again) that while HPS was passing through our crowd
the friend was spelling GOO Morning. .........
Aba bhena english
teacher lai beijjat gare pachi usko class kasari attend garne ...
we three did not attend Mr. HPS's english class for another 6 months.
or so.... then, we silently started attending his class by
occupying the back seats .... Aba hamro english jhan khattam .
.... Well, I managed to clear the exams, ... able to come to here in
in this internet with this TUTE FUTEKO english ... to enjoy you
all .... Therefore, I want to say here that I am now learning the
vocabulary with the help of SAN's set up i.e. english dictionary.com
that pop ups in one click. I did not know what that yawn means...
NK wrote yaaaaaaaaaaaawning, so I shortened it to yawn ....
so kaa, yo ta gajab ramailo word rahechah.... Haaaaaaaaaaai ko
english version ...... So, these 3 sentences are very impressive
to me. ... These days, its so easy for me to learn new word,
just click on the word, its just there ...... Its no more
yaaaawning . ... Its getting interesting for me. . ....
