You guys seem to enjoy lambasting corrupt people who send their children abroad to study in a university. That's fine by me. But what about the more than 50% Nepali individuals living illegally, or working illegally in the US? Are they any different? Also, Nepalis seemed to have lost millions of Rupees that was funneled to some DC based lawyer, who supposedly promised them green card(although fake). You all damn well know that the money won't be going back to these people anymore. And they damn well deserved it for being so gullible.
Why do Nepalis empathize with these illegal border-jumping Nepalis, who are seen as "hard working", although in reality they are just stealing jobs from hardworking Americans? Why the double standard? I guess it has to do with perception. You perceive Nepalis who suck up Nepal dry as criminals, but you don't perceive Nepalis who steal jobs away from hard working Americans as criminals. Is it because most of you are illegal immigrants yourselves?????
I sure as hell don't want an illegal Nepali doing better than me. I say, deport them ASAP.

Ritu,

It is no secret that corruption is widespread in Nepal. It is a fact that even the blind and the deaf can’t refute. But, to openly defend the corrupt by patronizing them because they’ve helped you, is unacceptable at a time like this. Nepal needs change, it requires every Nepali to resent corruption.

In Bhaktapur, you might be surprised to know that there are many business men/women there who worked in the fields day and night to make enough money and buy a vehicle, then they rent it out or drive it and make enough to buy couple more and have made their fortune that way. With the money they’ve earned through hard work they have been able to send their children overseas for their education. It is not fair to them to label students overseas as being associated with corruption.

Then there are those who have won scholarships to study overseas, like myself. Not only did the University give me free education, room and board but also a monthly allowance.

You seem to know GRJ and CW then you probably know where they were before they became successful politicians and where they are now. If you have some idea on how they might’ve become rich (legitimately) then share that with us or if you know the names of specific individuals, let's discuss it. Please don’t disrespect the thousand who are studying overseas on scholarships or whose parents have toiled hard to build a successful business.

Corruption is the biggest enemy of our country. I strongly despise those who are involved in it and those who support the people who are involved. I also wish that CIAA would start using hidden cameras to bring these idiots to justice in addition to past evidences.

I know that the situation in US regarding Job has become dire. But "dog eat dog" mentality is not good. We must support our fellow Nepalis even though they may have been foolish and naive - What have you.

Euta Thita ji; With all due respect...here is one perspective of someone who "legally " works in the DC Public school sytem....Bear with me please;

There is a dearth of educators in the education field in US...all because of the computer boom. There is a kind of a 'brain-drain' from both DC public school and PG county school systems. Although, there are enough degreed teachers, they refuse to go into teaching because of the type of work it entails...(being open to courtcases, violence in schools, comparatively low pay....). they would rather go to a higher paying job (computer field and/ or lower risk job) or stay on unemplyment and get the state to pay for them. This leaves a huge space. To fill this need/empty space, educators are being sponsored from over seas; educators with certified teaching degrees. That is legal right??only because the US recognizes the need...and will do anything to fill this space.

Along the same lines, most illigal immigrants also fill a void....menial jobs/lowpaying that most American refuse to touch. They would rather live off of welfare. According to the economic laws of demand an supply; where there is a demand, there is supply. As long as there are menial jobs to be filled, there will be an onslaught of illigal immigrants coming in and staying. Now, the day US govt recognizes that there are menial jobs or any other to be filled and allows immigration based on such a recognition, the illigals will no longer be illegals....hoina ra? this has not happened yet!

One thought....What is wrong with everybody having an "American dream"; isn't it a human tendency to want to better one's quality of life? :)
Euta Thita Posted on 25-Aug-02 07:22 PM

Well, as long as you're working here legally, that's fine. If you're working illegally, but doing menial jobs, like cleaning the toilet or washing dishes, that's fine too. But I can't stand illegal folks doing better than me. My family and I had to sacrifice so much to get into this position. Being lower than an illegal immigrant sux. They don't even pay taxes!

Are there any of us who came to this country without Pass port and visa ? I guess no.
But if we take a census we will find so many people entered to this country without any documents, and now their children claim that they are the bonafied citizen of USA. So
we never question about their lagality. Every one is entitled to have basic things this country is made for the all nations not just for European.
Remaining Nepalese will start to pay tax once they become Permanent Resident.

You'r right people just have to work hard here, and they can get whatever they want , they can travel whereever want , they can eat whatever they want and they can think for the rest of the world. These days there are three kind of citizens which are Global ,National and Local so people who works harder whereever they live they can bring changes to their social status and easily could bring changes to their mentality and considered themselves to be a Global Citizen. That is the beauty of this country, one can think for the rest of the world. Every day people spend thier time not only for their family, not only for their nations where they come from but for the good for the man kind.
